A friend of ours called the city, and asked it she was allowed to bury their dog in the backyard. She wa told, that she was not. There is a city ordinance that said it was against the law to bury dogs. She piped up and asked, only dogs? She was told that was all that was n the books. She then asked, "What about other animals?" He replied it says only dogs. How about a person. His reply was, "There is nothing in the laws that says you can't." How crazy is that. You can't bury a dog, but you can bury a person. LOL

Honestly...that is crazy. My feeling is that if your friend owns the property, she should be able to bury whatever she wants there. I have serious problems with government "controlling" our personal property. I realize that there are some things that do pose a harm to others that have to be monitored, but to not be able to bury a dog...it's nuts!

I agree that if we own the property that we should be able to do what we want with it, including burying our pets there. We should not be restricted on what we can do or not do with our property.

Wow, that's pretty bad. Laws are like that... they're full of wierd things, like where you can bury people but not dogs... Maybe claim the dog is a person and bury it anyway? =D

Well.. I say it's time to dress the dog up in a suit and bury him! If they ask, "Uncle Barky" was one hairy man! lol

Wow that's odd! Here you can't bury any pet as far as I know. I even have my guinea pigs cremated generally. Except, the first two I had when I moved here, were sneakily buried in the yard when they passed on/were put to sleep (shh...).

That is very crazy that you can bury a person but not a dog. what is the reason for not being able to bury a dog? I wonder if this illegal in all cities or just that city. I know people that have buried their dogs in their backyards and never got in trouble. I don't see why they disallow this and think this is a ridiculous ordinance.

This doesn't make any sense at all. I'm wondering why she called the city to begin with? I don't think that it would have even occurred to me. I would have figured that I could bury my pet in my own back yard. I never would have thought that anything was wrong with that.

Ya know..I'm almost afraid to ask about this law in my town..since back Dec. 2004, we buried our dog in our backyard. However, I havent buried any bodies back there lately..so I wonder what the maximum punishment/fine could be. Did they happen to give your friend that information, I would think its probably just as interesting!

That just goes to show you that the people that make the laws and the rules don't know what's really going on...lol.

Oh my goodness. There is just too much crazy stuff going on out there. I would bury my dog anyway. What are they going to do? Thanks for all your responses to my discussions! They are always great!!!

I believe it is against the law to bury a dog in my town too, something about it being a health hazard. But I just did it anyway. We own the property so who is going to know. I think most people do it anyway.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. You can't bury a pet dog but you can bury grandma in the yard. That's just wrong. Alot of these states and towns need to change some of their silly laws. I would have never called. I would have buried my dog anyway.
