I live in Oklahoma where it can get pretty hot and dry in the summer if we dont get enough rain. My problem last year was that my flowers werent withstanding the heat very well at all and died back. I fed and watered them. Im wondering if anyone has any ideas for this upcoming year. Im really looking forward to planting new flowers, but i dont want them to be a waste of money once summer hits. Also, any ideas on pretty flowers that grow good in the shade???

I live in KS and it gets very hot here during the summer to. I have 8 flower garden spots in my yard. One of them is not by a water hydrant. So I have to drag the hose a long wasy to get to it. Anyway, I go to the local green house and look for flowers that can with stand the heat and drought. HAve you thought about succulents? Do you know what a red poker is. It is kind of a spindley plant that developes a long tall thing in the center. It starats to flower out and the top and gradually turns red and goes down the stem. It is really neat. I have several of them. And they spread to.

this might help you when you plant your garden this year plant some gallon jugs in the ground around the garden put a small hole in the jug and fill with water they will water for for 3 to 4 days then go back remove the lids and fill them back up with a hose.

Impatiens do well in the shade. Heuchera, Hosta and Astilbe are perennials that like the shade.
