For me goverment - well politics we can specify - wants only two things
1. Money - they just want to get paid for their laziness
2. Power - the feeling of controling the matters that are above all others control , the ability to change thousands of lives in a glance
And it varies - some politics prefers more money adn some more power but it is basiclly this two for me :)

Money & blind obedience.
Gimme a break, they never learn that we do have minds of our own and always will. Hello, McFly.

When you think about it, money is what it's all about. The citizens are the ones funding all of the government programs in one way or another, either through taxes (which we know are excessively high in the U.S.) or through private donations. We fund the military, medicare, medicaid, social security, education system... And the government "governs" all of these programs. With our money. Interesting concept here, isn't it?

I can't even think where to start.
What do goverments want to achieve in general.
Achieve a better economy, provide healthcare, education, legal framework, reduce unemployment, provide pension and provide social benefits.
So how can citizens contribute in this whole process provide the money needed to achieve all this and you could also contribute by doing volunteer work to help organisations trying to achieve the same.
I guess they also control how you save/spend your money with the interest rate changes.
So I think they really don't want much more than money from the citizens.
