Afican Americans are NOT from Africa!

I think that it's a term that came about from history and I personally don't have a problem being called an african american since all black people have a lineage of africans somewhere in there blood. If a white man with a jewish background was born in America he's still a jew.

I guess some would say you're technically correct but there are many other groups that call themselves by a double nationality - there are Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, German-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc. In my opinion I'd just like to think of us all as simply Americans but maybe that's because I have so many different nationalities in me it would take me all day to identify myself in that way! It's nothing wrong with the term- but I think its intent is to recognize that blacks in America descended form Africa, just as Asian Americans, Irish American, etc... they may have been born here in the U.S. but they are descendents from that region. Why do we have need to call the indigenous people of America- Native Americans?... to distinguish them from all the other races that populate this great country-. Call me what you want--I know what I am!

Its really complicating for me because I dont like the term either I am not African nor are my parents African and they just had me in America. I really hate that because I was born in America I deserve just to be called American. At the same time though I dont have that much of a problem because my ancestors were African and I want to be able to represent them. However Im not even 100% black no one is. In my family tree there were white people in it. So really if they knew everything that I am mixed with...what would I be called then?
