Weird Mental Symptoms with Case of Strep Throat. Tell me I'm not alone!

I've had a head cold since before Christmas. Everyone around me was having stomach flu, but I didn't get it. I didn't go to the doctor because I didn't have a fever. Finally, I called the advice nurse, who suggested I might as well come in since I had been sick longer than normal for a cold. I still didn't have a fever. This was last week. He said to keep taking ibuprofen.
On Monday, I was feeling pretty good. Tuesday morning, I woke up with a sore throat (first time for this symptom), went in to work and by 3:30 pm I was too sick to drive my self home. I had to wait until 5:00 so my carpool buddy could drive me home.
Went to the doctor Tuesday. Massive strep infection. I'm allergic to most antibiotics except penicillin, so he gave me penicillin and I thought he told me to continue with the ibuprofen. Didn't sleep all night (really - couldn't swallow, could hardly breathe. Misery all day Wednesday. Thursday morning, started vomiting blood. Nurse said, get to ER. So, I spent 6 hours in the ER, chest xrays, blood tests, monitors, IV Vancomycin drip and two doses of morphine. Maybe related to throat problem and taking too much ibuprofen.
When the morphine wore off last night, the pain was now constant instead of only when I swallowed. It burned inside my whole mouth. I still can't swallow. Oh, and my mental processes have been really interesting during this whole situation. It's like I'm listening to myself dream before the place in the process where you take the firing of the circuits and find a pattern recognition for the thought. I hear random bits of garbled conversations; all in English, but nothing makes sense. I've tried employing all the mental tools I have to stop this, nothing works, so I'm just going with the flow. (The weird mental thing was there at the beginning. The morphine stopped it)
Has anybody else out there ever had any kind of experience like this or is anyone out there sick like this right now. I'd love to compare symptoms and get (and give) some sympathy. ;-)
