Intel VS Amd which is better?

I was planning to buy a new computer for my brother this month but something bother's me about computer brands/model/manufactures actually i would say i am illiterate when it comes to computer hardware, can you give me some advice to choose between an AMD OR INTEL PROCESSOR?
some say's AMD today is more powerful than INTEL, im a big fan of INTEL coz for me INTEL brands are quite last longer than any other brands...but i want to try AMD since its much cheaper than INTEL, for all AMD user you can share your experiences on AMD brand.

i am using an intel processor because of the fact that i go by the brand name it has acquired all these years...further the graphics which has been included by the processor is also very good..

yes INTEL BRANDS are Institutions, but AMD is trying their best to beat this institutions with their low cost processors with quality and speed like Intel anyway a little advice and i will go for intel.

I am sorry i am an intel user.and so i would recommend u to buy intel processor rather than AMD..though amd is cheaper than intel, intel lasts longer than amd, bcoz the amd processor gets heated soon and so cant work for longer time like intel..So i would prefer intel mother board and pentium4 or core2duo processor..

for me AMD is the best for gaming users. and Intel for surfing the net. both have good quality it's only for you to decide which you want to use. or look at yourself what kind of person you are. the one who wants pc games or just surfing the net and chatting.

did i hear it right? INTEL processor is a factor for just surfing the net? i think processors is not a big factor for surfing the net,even if you have dual core Intel processor then your connetion is just a dial up,you can't rely on your INTEL PROCESSOR, then vice versa, slow processor but DSL or T1 connection then you can chat or surf fast.
