What are people's thoughts on working for the fast food chain McDonald's?
I have worked on a normal and Drive-Thru McDonald's and I had good and bad times. I loved interating with people, but the management I worked with were morons. I saw some truly awful things (A co-worker placed his hand on the hotplate, and because of the heat the hand stuck and they had use a burger flipper to get his hand off the hotplate...not nice) but all in all it was a job and it paid the bills.

I worked at a McDonald's for about three months once. Of course, they only gave me 4 hours or so a week, at $5.75/hour. That experience was so horrible, I can't even say. First off, they never actually trained me on anything but frys, and I only did that one day or so. The rest of the time, I was the "Presenter," which wasn't *too* hard, but I'm not much of a people person. Ignorant people get on my nerves. And where I live, there are a *lot* of ignorant people. I won't go into the reason that this job made me terrified to get another (it wasn't the place though) but I haven't had a job since, and that was a year and a half ago.
I heard about something that happened before I was hired similar to your story. This girl that worked there had put her hand in the fryer - I believe they rushed her to the hospital. But I guess she though there was a counter there and was going to lean on it, but instead landed in the 375degree oil.
I would not recommend working at any fast food place. That job made me swear to never work in food service. They also said I quit, when in reality, they just took me off of the schedule. Of course, it could just be that particular restaurant, I'm sure there are others that aren't nearly as bad.

It's really wired, and awful managers and crew seem to be a unviersal thing no matter what McDonald's you do to.
I can understand why you would not have got a job since as well, they are not exactly the best place for a person's self esteem.

wow that sounds awful! Why did he have his hand on the hotplate anyway? o.O I've never worked in McDonalds, but I have worked in a chippy. The worst part was when it came to cleaning and all the grease that was on the floor. So when Mopping it all up, it only actually made the floor even more slippier but as you said it was a job and made sure the money was coming in.

The guy was looking at what he was doing and I'm guessing he thought it was just a normal side, so he put his hand on it as he leant that way talking to someone.
Yes, it was money, but I will never work for them again...ever.

I think it's an honorable job and somebody has to do it.I wouldn't want to make a career out of it but if you need money and don't have any experience,it's a place to start.I always try to be nice to the people working at these places 'cause I would want the same respect.

My experience working at McDonalds was one of the worst. Very little pay and they required too much. I got a 20 min. break and all I could have for break was a small burger and a small fry. It was so exhausting and the management I worked with were morons too. I was actually one of the very few teens working at McDonald's. I worked at McDonald's in high school and I know there are much better jobs out there for teens. I really wouldn't recommend working at McDonald's to anyone!

i hated that job-i think i lasted all of 3 weeks.
they put me on front counter when i wanted back of house,
right between the doors in january and got sick,my skin went to hell with all the grease, and i worked with a guy you had to watch every minute-he stole from people's cash drawer at the register.
i had a manager-a female one-who looked just like ronnie james dio
(black sabbath)i used to hear "holy diver" play in my head every time she walked in,so i couldn't help but laugh.

Fast food restaurants are some of the worst places to work. I worked at a McDonald's for almost three weeks once in high school, and I could not stand it. You could make better money with nearly anything you can think of.
