What's one of the most special or memorable cakes that you've gotten for your birthday OR some other special event? For me, it was a doll cake I got when I was 13. It was beautiful... The cake was a round shape with a real doll sticking out of the top of it. The cake was made into the dolls skirt and decorated very beautifully. What about yours?

I guess this reply doesn't stick with the exact topic but I made a Cookie Monster cake for my son when he was five. He almost passed out when he saw it because he was a die hard Cookie Monster fan. In fact, one of his first 'real' words was "cookie-ma-c"; I guess you sort of hard to hear it to get the humor of it. He had a HUGE Cookie Monster stuffed animal that was taller than him and we had to cart that thing all over the place. All the work was in icing it but it was so worth it to see the look on his face. I never really had cool cakes when I was growing up; with so many kids in the family, you were pretty much happy to get something basic but my grammie would always make me something special, usually pumpkin muffins or soul cakes.

Sorry for that double post, I have no idea why it came up twice! I have been getting the 'myLot is down for system work' message a couple times, maybe the system hiccuped. Sooooooo sorry about that!

I miss the stores on the West Coast; Albertsons, Vons, Trader Joes, Ralphs and Henry's ... when I was talking to someone about the grocery stores they asked me something weird ... "Are all the stores there named after people?" That never occured to me ... strange, off topic and weird but that's just me ... strange, off topic and weird LOL

That sounds cute! I would have loved to have seen it. When my middle son turned 2 a few years ago, I bought him 2 cakes from Albertson's (that was before I realized how fun it was to make cakes and design them however you wanted to). They were both small, which is why I got two and one was an Elmo head, and the other one was a Cookie Monster head. They were very cute except one got squished. Still tasted good though... :)

I had one of those cakes. But I didn't find it special like you did because I was more of a Tomboy and didn't really play with dolls. But I have to say there are two cakes that I remember the most. One year my mother went through so much trouble to make me this beautiful cake with purple fondant. It was so pretty, I was afraid to cut it. And to top it off, she brought it to my work and made enough for everyone to have a piece of cake. That made it even better! The following year, my kids made me a cake. It was so funny and one of the most messy cakes I had ever seen! But you know, it was that much more special because they all worked together to make the cake! :)

Aww, that's cute that your kids made you a cake. I agree, those are the ones that mean the most.

My birthday has always been around Easter. That is when we celebrated it. One year I think I was about ten, I really wanted a lamb cake. At that point in time my parents did not have the money to go to the bakery. So my mother sat up all night to make me one. It was the coolest thing ever. I will never forget that. I know it is one of those things that is normal around that time but we never had one in our house. We put it out, it was sitting out for a little while and the head fell off! It was funny. My poor mother cried. But I loved every moment of it.

That's really sweet! I usually make my kids birthday cakes these days and it's fun for me and totally worth the time it took, to see the looks on their face when they see it.

One year when I was a pre-teen, not sure how old at this point but it was some time in elementary school, my mom made me a birthday cake from scratch. My mom isn't the best of cooks but this one was fabulous. It's a Milky Way cake. It's done in three layers and the frosting has 5 large milky way bars melted into it. I have to get that recipe from her and try making it myself. See if it's as good now as I remember.

My 16th birthday cake had one of my favorite pictures of Hanson song it and it said, "Happy 16th, Hanson Girl". I loved it. My most memorable party was my 18th. It was at a Toby Lightman concert with about twenty of my friends and relatives. It was an awesome time.

There are two that come to mind. The first one is my 16th birthday. My best friends Mom made it for me (she made cakes) and it was just beautiful. The second would be my wedding cake. It was just as I imagined it would be. Three teirs & a fountain underneath it. With purple icing and flowers. It was very pretty.

I've had several mememberale cakes throughout my life. None really quite as special though as yours (except maybe my wedding cake). I'll just go with two aside from my gorgoeus wedding cake. On my 16th birthday I had 2 flower pots full of dirt cake - which is one of my favorite deserts. They looked really neat. My mom even had a couple of fake flowers (spray painted black cause my theme was purple & black) sticking in them. One other was my 19th birthday my sister-in-law (wasn't married yet though) got me a picture cake with my favorite picture of my husband and I on it. I loved it :)

When I was 30 something my then roommate & a friend made a couple of cakes for my birthday (the party done in conjuction with a Doctor Who birthday party.) they made 2 cakes, a chocolate & spice cake. they were working on the icing and found one of the cats, Jellibaby, had eatten a trech right across the top (or bottom...) of the spice cake. They didn't have time to make a new one, so they carefully shaved the part around the trench & iced it up. They told me, but we didn't tell anyone else. For a Doctor Who Valetines party, I made a cake. I couldn't find a strawberry mix that was corn free, so I made a white cake & used marchino cherries in it (YUMMY!!) I only had one heart pan so I cooked one, then cooked the other layer - only I didn't make a layer cake. The Doctor is a Time Lord and has 2 hearts, so we cut the thinner layer & put it so it looked like it was behind the other layer & then decorated. We wrote on it "One for casual" on the upper, more simply decorated cake and "One for best," on the other more ornately decorated. This was a line used by another Time Lord (Lady in this case.)
