I checked the other day (I think it was after the Tampa game) and they were out of the playoffs. Are they going to make it?

I guess not. The Leafs are clerly a shadow of what they've been in the past these days, which is a pity.

Well they're still young though right?
We've shown we can play really well but we're sloppy more often.
If we make the playoffs it's a whole new game and I think they can do some damage.

I don't think they'll start performing a whole differently just because it is the playoffs, this is, if they reach that far. I mean, you need some consistent season in order to be prepared to shine at the playoffs, don't you think so?

One of the interesting things about the NHL (and especially the new NHL) is that you *don't* need that kind of consistency. The salary cap is the big leveller, which was witnessed by Edmonton's dramatic run to the Stanley Cup finals last year.
Edmonton was not at all consistent throughout the regular season (in fact they didn't secure their playoff spot until their final regular season game), yet they pulled it together when it counted and ended up one win short of it all.

Like with most other seasons, I think at the current moment it's a 50/50 shot. The good news though is that they're winning a lot of games *now*, not later on when they're practically out of it.
It's a change for the better, last year they went on a losing streak until they were almost out of it, before going on a tear that had us fans hoping until they inevitably got eliminated.
