Has anyone here in myLot are Indonesians? Or probably knows a little bit about Indonesia or Indonesian?
Well.. Indonesia is a country where I love the most. I love anything about it.
I was born in the capital city of this country, that is Jakarta.
The climate is quite warm (mostly hot) and the Indonesians are also friendly people.
So anyone want to share, ask questions or curious about this Indonesian or Indonesia, anybody?!
I will try to tell you more about Indonesia or Indonesian if you are interested.

I'm very happy to read this posting about Indonesia and Indonesian. I am not an Indonesian, but my parents were. My late dad is from Solo and my late mum is from Kendal. Unfortunely, they never told us anything about their ancestors except that of relatives who migrated together with them to Singapore. I learnt to speak Bahasa just so that I can interact better with Indonesian and have some feeling of my ancestoral roots. I just love to visit Indonesia. I make it a point to visit any part of Indonesia at least once a year. But I visited Sumatra twice, Java once, Riau countless time last year.
Sad to see that Indonesia never fail to be face by natural disaster one after another. The president now is so unlucky to face all this problem during his terms. No matter what happen to Indonesia, I will still keep visiting. I felt very rich and its a really eye opener to appreciate yourself and what you have when you see all those people living under the railway station in Jakarta and have to work hard just so that they have something to eat. Thinking about how Singaporean child is spoilt for choice with what ever food they want. Its really a period of reflection that one can do during visit to Jakarta, the city of Indonesia.

I'm so glad to read your thoughts regarding Indonesia, noyida. I could relate to your feelings towards Indonesia. I see you know a lot about Indonesia and Indonesian.
It's so funny when you mentioned that the current Indonesian president are just so unlucky to face lots of problem during his terms. lol
You're probably right, maybe he should better have more luck to govern the country.:)
Regarding the Indonesian language, I guess bahasa Indonesia are more or less the same like Malay language.
So it's not really difficult to learn. "Tak payah, tak teruklah tuk belajar," that's what Malay's use to say, I guess.
Nice knowing you noyida and thanks for your response.

Yes, you are absolutely right noyida. lol
I found out about some of the difference thru the television. I used to watch the Singapore channel and Malaysian's channel when I was in Riau.
It's so amazing to find the different meaning for the same words, eh. hahaha.. tak payah pusing- pusing Jakarta, traffic jam lar.. (means don't even bother going around Jakarta because of the traffic jam problem)

Just like to comment on the language that we use. There are some similarity of Bahasa and Malay though. It can be of the same word but having a different meaning. A lot of Indonesian woman who come to Singapore to work as Domestic Worker have difficulties communicating. Things in the kitchen like spicies, differ in names and usage.. can be choatic you know. Another example, the word "Pusing" it means "headache" in Bahasa, but come to Malay it means "Turn". See the different.

Yes, Indonesia is a very beautiful one. But I think the goverment and all citizens should do many things to make every single place as famous and impressing as bali because there are lots of places more beautiful than bali. So more devisa, and more wellness to the people. I think we here could make it to tell the whole world that you won't be sorry visiting Indonesia.

Couldn't agree more with you djamparing!
Yes indeed Indonesia is a very beautiful place and beautiful nation, as I recall.
And yupe, there's also lots of places in Indonesia are far more beautiful than Bali. It's just not being explored yet.
Once I came across a bule (foreigner) and he asked me this, "Where about Indonesia? Is it close to Bali?!" lol
I was burst to laugh and said to myself o goodness me. People know Bali more than they know anything about Indonesia.
Thanks for your response.

Well, mynatenyi;for starter, the Indonesian people are friendly, will try to help as much as they could if they can, and most of them have brown skin complexion. In which for some, they have been called exotic.
In terms of height, the Indonesian are more or less average height 165-170cm. Although the new generation these days, tend to be taller than the old generation.

Yeah mamatika,
seems like the natural disaster couldn't stop there in Indonesia. It's so sad knowing all these things happened. And to make things worst, there is also a bird flu thing going around in Indonesia. I pray for the people in Indonesia.
Thank you for your response, mamatika.

I have never been to Indonesia...my parents went there once and they are always telling us it is a very special place..I do hope I can come and visit your country one day...You are saying that Indonesia is the place where you are living for the greatest part of your time...where do you live apart from Indonesia? where do you live in Indonesia now? are you still in the capital? What is the life here in Indonesia? I mean, is it a big city where you live or a little town? Do you live in an occidental like way or is it all different and peculiar?
I do hope to hearing from you soon

Hi maribea,
if you get a chance, I recommend you strongly to visit Indonesia. Any part of Indonesia would be just fine. Either Bali (reknown of the beaches, and the panorama), Jakarta (the capital city of Indonesia where you could find tons of malls, good shopping here), or other parts of Indonesia like Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Irian Jaya.
I used to live in Jakarta, when I was back there in Indonesia. Now I resides in the UK. Yes, Jakarta is quite big city, and people are friendly there (i.e a good place to shop, what to see, where to stay cheap and nice, etc).
If you happen to want to visit Indonesia, do let me know, I'll give you some tips about stuff when you think you needed, maribea.

hi, pooksywooksy, I am not Indonesian, but I have some friends who are (you are one of them!). I have been to Bali, more for work than for fun. I loved it there, and the climate, too. Of course, the people are very nice as far as my experience is concerned. I am impressed by the embroidery as an art for clothes also, I got so excited when I saw a supplier of embroidered dresses, bags, etc. Jakarta is not so much for me, though, it is too crowded. I am so sad about what is happening now in Indonesia - from forest fires, to earthquake, landslides, floods, and now the airplane accidents! I am really apalled! Some of my friends work for poor communities up in Flores island, I do not know now how they are coping with the current situation there. Anyway, we always pray for our friends.

I think you are not living in Indonesia anymore. For me, Indonesia is not good. It is not getting better also. Every year people pray to get a better year and every year it becomes worst. What become worst? All. The politics, economy, culture, tradition, and the best of Indonesian habit, the corruption. Politics is not getting better, it becomes dirtier. Economy is like hell. Culture is getting extinct. Tradition is better on yesterday life, want proof? People used to follow rules on the street, now, they ride motorcycles against the traffic. It also become more dirty and polluted. The people are also become more dumb, why? More schools are closed than opened. More schools are more expensive than cheap. Many schools don't have roof anymore and many are collapsed. How is it hearing those stories? Don't believe me? Open Indonesian news site and read it by yourself. Try this detik.com or kompas.com

Hello there pooky! Yes I'm Indonesian too, I born in Jakarta, and im 20 years old. I love Indonesia, but I don't like the weather, sometimes its too hot! I bet the Europeans and Americans love hot weathers, but we don't, most of Indonesians love cold weather, as we all know, Indonesia don't have winter season :)
