Do we really exist (and by 'we', I must mean 'I')?

From the time I was a child, and in spite of my Christian upbringing, I've always wondered if any of this experience is real. As a child, I was sure that my 'existence' was the product of my own dreams or someone else's. In my early 20's, I tried so hard not to think about my existence, sure that if I figured out the 'truth', game over, no more fake existence. There's no way for me to prove it any more than there is for anyone to prove a God (or any true existence) to me. Am I the only one who's felt this way?

That's what I've been thinking lately "Too much time away from the text books." Thanks

And p.s. I do think, that does not necessarily mean I am.

And, P.S. I do seem to think, but that does not necessarily mean that I am. Thanks!

This makes me remeber wht my Physics teacher said about a possiblity for our existence.
There is a woman who weighs 524 pounds who is in a coma in a hospital. She has no control over her bowels and urination and is constantly a mess. Being in the coma, she is having a massive dream where she is semi lucid and aware of the goings on.
We are all just a part of this womans wet dream as she lies in the hospital bed in a coma.
There were 15 of us students in the class, the teacher being very religous, and we all lost it. It took a good ten minutes for class to get under way again.
That teacher is my all time favorite public school teacher.

Did this woman exist? Do you? Does your prof? Or am I dreaming you all up? And if so, how do I know that I really exist? Although, I feel alive after laughing at your post.

Now, I'm stuck, but I've 'lived'... Still think the same

and I think you answered your question right there. YOU FELT ALIVE!
Maybe you need more experiences in your life to help you feel alive.
Do you do new and interesting things on a regular occasion or are you feeling kinda stuck and bored?

Most of the time you do not exist, you are here for but the briefest of moments.
You are a brain cell in the universe of God that is God that makes God. Through your awareness, you will pass on your knowledge to others and the program of life will proceed as it does. Ultimately achieving some form of enlightenment through knowledge. Hopefully.
More and more of the Universe becomes apparent every day.
As long as we don't exterminate ourselves first.
It's invent a Kevinism time, 'Wisdom should never follow knowledge'. I like that. I wonder if anyone said that in the last 200 years. Do you think I just invented a proverb, pass it around, see where it goes. Weird inexplicable things don't happen to everyone, maybe if you wait a bit longer for such a thing to happen, then you will wonder about the universe in a different light.

You do not only exist but you are alive, you are living, you have life and it's God who gives you that life. We should accept realities, we are here on earth. God created us and everything for us. God lays out what we are supposed to do and those are in the Holy Bible, the Word of God which is the truth. God gives us wisdom and freedom of choice. In Ecclesiastes 12:13, the whole duty of man is to fear God and keep His commandments.
I hope you study the Holy Bible. And I hope you choose to fear God and keep His commandments.

That's very sweet of you to respond so. But it gives me no reason to believe you. I don't want to fear anything. Not even a god. If he/she/it existed, and I knew his/her/its worth, I wouldn't have to be persuaded to follow his/her/its will. I'm actually quite a decent person, but not because I think I should be or because I should fear repercussions- just because it feels good.
Don't misunderstand me; I'm not diminishing your post or your beliefs. It's just that things aren't that black and white for me.

It's I guess b/c man created god, who was a father-like image. And who should you fear more than your father.
It's sadly simple...

You bring up one of my most burning questions for the very religous.
WHY should we fear god? Since when is god something to be FEARED???
I am at such a huge loss for any possiblity of there being a mean, vengeful god. I just don't get that.
Who wants to live in fear their whole life?

Reading all the other responses I would say, Yes, you must be the only person who has ever felt this way! And yet I know you are not.
I can remember as a child wondering what would happen if we woke up from life the way we wake up from a dream, and it seemed possible. But I never doubted that we exist in some way.

Thank you! So, I'm not completely alone. I was always horrified at the thought of having dreamt my future, then lived in an attempt to avoid the known outcome, only, ultimately to reach it anyhow. That's a REAL Oedipus comples!
