Do you change the oil in your car or do you take it to a shop?

We take it to the shop all the time. It's just easier for us that way.

I take it to the shop. They have a proper way of disposing of the oil.
If I were to change my own oil, I would be left trying to figure out what I should be doing with the old oil. I grew up in a gas station, so I know that they oil is stored in a tank and a refining company comes and pumps out the old oil and takes it away.
So, I was raised knowing that it can't just be put on the street curb for the trash men to pick up on the next trash day.

it depends pretty much on the weather. lol
If it's freezing out I'll take my car to the shop to get the oil changed.
yet if it's a nice day out.. I'll get under the car to change the oil myself. It's not that hard to do! Just a screw drain plug.. let all the oil come out. Make sure you have a catch can (you can get them at the auto store). When it's done draining put the plug back in and fill the oil back up with new oil. That part is simple and so easy.
Yet alot of times when you go to change your oil, they will change your oil filter for you and your air filter. These are pretty simple to do also if you know what you're doing. Shops will also top off your fluids for you too.. But you can simply do that also...
by you doing it yourself not only are you saving a good 20+ bucks you're also gaining car knowledge which is key! Kick your husband and tell him you two are going to learn how to do it together.

I have found that when I use a coupon it is not that much more expensive than doing it myself. And I tend to procrastinate doing it myself-the gas stations put on those great stickers that tell you when to do it again.I do think that it is something everyone should know how to do though.
