I could not believe what I heard on the O'Reiley(sp) factor! Bill O'Reiley said that he does not "buy in" to the stockholdm syndrome(where kids have to depend on their captor after a certain length of time) and he thinks that any kids that do not try to escape actually LIKE something about the experience of being kidnapped and held captive! He gave an example of some girl that had been kidnapped and said that she didn't try to escape because before, her life was boring, and being kidnapped and held is exciting! He said he thinks the Shawn Hornbeck case is the same reason! I can't believe he would be so insensitive as to say something like that...just wondering your opinions on it...

I would say that Bill O'Reiley has a bit of wrong thinking there. How on earth can he say that about all kids that are kidnapped? Now I might admit you will have the odd ball case where the kid does find it better or more exciting however that is not the normal situation. Most are terrified. They are so emotionally traumatized, if not physically as well, that they have no sense of what is normal anymore. That is like saying abused wives or kids like it, that they want it to continue. It's a matter of fear and that they are controled by their captors. He needs a serious reality check.

Well, there's been plenty that's been written about the Stockholme Syndrome and from what I've read it makes perfect sense. No one can judge what these people have been through psychologically but the people who have lived it and for Bill O'Riley to say it doesn't exist is very narrowminded. But then I wouldn't expect anything less from him. He's not the most intelligent person on TV that's for sure!
