whenever a movie is created from a game, i always expect the worst. i mean, hollywood is the best in making films specially the graphics. what don't like about it is, whenever americans create a movie, the story ends up a disappointment... take final fantasy (the spirit within) fo example... the graphics was good but it lacks the elements of the final fantasy series... i mean, this game was well known for the names: bahamut, shiva, ifrit, cid, moggle, tonberry, etc... we cant find it in the movie! and it sucks!
but take final fantasy 7 (advent children) for example. becoz it was created by Japanese, it really is soooo cool and soooo FinalFantasy inclined. youll be able to see all that you expect from a finalfantasy story. the GFs(summon), the magics, the characters, the places... all of it are soooo made for the final fantasy fanatics... but these are just my opinions... how about you?

I agree with you there but of course not all games made into movies ended the same way. FF7 AC really was a good movie but at the same time kept me asking myself that what move was that used there? was that a weapon flying or a GF? well some moves were familiar like Tifa's Limit Break. My friends and I kept on arguing the move Cloud made towards Sephiroth in the end. :)

I cannot even start. I love final fantasy VII ( Advent Children ) movie. There were times when I watched it three times a day. It is soo cooool!!
And yes, Final Fantasy VII ( Advent Children ) is much much more better than Spirit withing. Spirit within sucks because it is too unrealistic to be unrealistic but not realistic at the same time. So it does not go anywhere.

Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within was made mostly by the Japanese part of Square. This is the first try by Square to try making a movie out of Final Fantasy series, and it didn't do well. I myself didn't find the movie very good enough, especially from what we should have expected from the term "Final Fantasy". There is no direct connection with whatsoever things in Final Fantasy series, and this disappoints me. The storyline itself doesn't reflect much on Final Fantasy. They shouldn't have use the term "Final Fantasy" at the first place.
However, Hironobu Sakaguchi and his collegues have learned their lesson. And the result is the awesome, exciting, top-notch CG animated movie, the Final Fantasy: Advent Children.

FF:TSW was absolute garbage, I really do not like it at all. However, Advent Children was brilliant! I also like the FF animated series that was made too.

to make a movie for FF8 would be great! but if ever, i think it will be more romantic inclined than be an action type of movie...

Final Fantasy games are great games. Nice graphical presentation, great storyline and innovative battle systems. FMVs are wonderful. I've been playing Final Fantasy since FF2! =) And do you know why this series is called Final Fantasy? =)

There are two known reasons why the series is called Final Fantasy. The first one because, it was supposed to be Hironobu Sakaguchi's last and final game, he was going to retire, but then as we know, he didn't. The second reason is, Final Fantasy was the last hope for Square to continue alive. The company has been into video games business since the age of classic console Super Famicom. Unfortunately, they were facing financial problem and if they can't make a masterpiece, that is the end for Square. So, they need to come out with an idea, and after seeing the success of Dragon Quest, an RPG by Enix, they got the inspiration to make a similar masterpiece. So they developed and created an RPG, and named it Final Fantasy, as if this game failed to sell, it would be the "Final" fantasy for them. And gladly, the game was a success, although not as good as Dragon Quest, but enough to keep Square alive, and the series of Final Fantasy still continue until today.

i think you've missing something important... final fantasy advent children is a direct sequel to the game "final fantasy VII" so it has to follow the same storyline with all same characters. On the other hand, "spirits within" is a completely independent movie whose characters or story line is not related to any of the games whatsoever. And the country of its make has nothing whatsoever to do with it. The summons or GFs are game-specific and needn't possibly appear in anything and everything related to final fantasy. What matters is ultimately whether the movie is good or not, and i personally feel that spirits within is really an awesome one. I only hope there's a movie on FF-X-2 featuring the three cool babes who are my favorite characters in the entire final fantasy series.

yes, ai know what you mean... spirits within is also a great movie, and to tell you the truth, i also bought its DVD to add to my collections... but my point is, whenever Americans create a movie from Japanese animes or games, they tend to make one totally different from the originals. Take Street Fighter the movie for example, just because they are Americans, they made Guile the main character of the movie. And worst, they made Ryu and Ken easy go lucky bunch of bandits who were after money when we all know that Ken is a son of a very influential rich man in US. I havent seen a remake of Japanese originals that i could say i really enjoyed... but like i said, these are just my opinions...

I think the only reasons people love or hate the Final Fantasy movies are because of those two words: Final and Fantasy. I watched Advent Children with my wife. She hated it. As far as playing the games, she's only played part of FF1. And the plot, to her, was completely assinine.
However, for gamers, there hasnt' been a single person who's disliked FF:AC. As for The Spirits Within, I haven't watched that with my wife, so I don't know her opinion. But the main argument I hear against it is that it's too different from the games. It has no summons, no moogles, no chocobos, etc. But it's not a bad movie.
People only dislike it because of the Final Fantasy moniker, which they feel is undeserved. I think the character development in TSW is more on par with major Hollywood productions, and the story, while cheeseball, isn't so different from Armageddon or any other disaster flick.
AC, on the other hand, has lame-o whiny mama's boys as villians. The character development is non-existent. It's cheesier than TSW, as far as having random characters save the day at the right time. To me, TSW is a better written film. AC, is much more interesting, but has no value to people who haven't played FF7. TSW is for everyone.
Advent Children is not the best movie of all time. It's not even the best movie of the week it came out. Neither is The Spirits Within the worst movie ever. They're mediocre, niche films, that have too much hype for the wrong reasons. Take them for what they are and don't praise (or malign) them for what they aren't.

actually, that's true for all topics... people are entitled to their own opinions... in my case, i loved FFAC for the reason that i am a player... in the case of none-players, they would love watching FFAC for its graphics and action only... but since they don't know the story before FFAC, they will be lost throughout the entire movie... and even if they watch it over and over, they'd still say its complicated

The CG for both films is definitely the best out there. But gone are the days where people see a movie just to see the effects. Every other movie is computer animated. It's no longer novel. I think AC is cool, you do, but I challenge anyone to find a non-gamer who thinks that.
