A friend of mine sent me a song file a few months back and said 'you have to listen to this, you'll love it'. It was 'Samson', by Regina Spektor, and I did love it. It's one of my favorite songs. She has an amazing voice and really unique music. I'm definitely a fan.

I've really been loving the direction she's been going in with her new cd. It's definitely a lot happier than for example, Soviet Kitsch. There seems to be a new trend (if I may use that term) in what has been called the "Anti-folk" music scene in which artists like Ani DiFranco and Regina Spektor are often categorized. I saw Ani at a folk fest this past summer and she played some new happy songs that she had been working on. It seems to be move in the direction of joy as opposed to the anger and frustration that has been focused on in the past. Who knows if it's a good thing or not....

The first time I heard about her was when I was watching Grey's Anatomy. During one of the episodes a part of her song 'Fidelity' was aired. I find it very well written , words are perfect for the situation I am currently in so I researched more about it. Luckily, I found her MySpace site and I was able to get a copy of the song.
Since then I got hooked. I love all her songs but Fidelity is still my favorite.

I love her music as well. I have three of her songs that I play and sing myself. Apres Moi when I am a little frustrated or depressed. The flowers, when I am in an inbetween or weird mood. And Somedays, when I am happy. She has such a unique style I am so happy she decided to share it with the world.
