I believe that elder people are set in their own way. If you want things to change, then you can only expect to see it coming from the younger generations. If they're not that interested in changing things, then all will stay the same. As for the caste system dominating Indian society... I think it's slowly changing. Of course the most rural places still apply it more than the rest, I should believe. The emergence of a middle class that has been educated and which lives in the cities mostly makes this change. You could refer yourself to Swades, a film with SRK in it :D There's a scene in which he tries to convince the village elders that the caste system is old and just like racism. That's what you have: young, working Indians who have seen how things are elsewhere.
