I bought my computer 5 yrs ago and i've got bad sectors of 16 kb in c: and f:. I've formatted my system but while booting and many times while running hard disk makes a sound and system hangs. I've reinstalled windows but it's not working. My friends also have computers from 7-8 years but they didn't have any problems. What should i do?

I don't think the bad sector is the problem. Since you are telling that you hear lots of sound when booting, it could be a harware failure too, which is the worst case and inevitabily, you have to buy a new one. This happens when your Master Boot Record(MBR) is corrupted of bad. Try another command, boot in command promt as said in the post and run "fdisk /mbr" without "". This will reset your MBR. Then you can try scandisk and chkdisk. If all these don't work, it's a hardware error!

That may fix it but I'll loose my data. Let me try some other things before that else, i'll have to back it up and use fdisk. Anyway, thanx.

Listen, just go to http://www.gold-software.com/download7605.html and download HDD Regenerator. Don’t rush to throw out your disk and don’t think that your important information is irretrievably lost. Take advantage of HDD Regenerator – the unique program for regeneration of hard disk drives. HDD Regenerator will regenerate your hard drive by magnetic reversal. As a result, not readable damaged information will be restored. With all this going on, the existing information will not be lost! You can read more on at the given link.

Hard drives are very affordable now a days. You can get a 400gb hard drive for about 150 bucks on sale if you look around. Its best to replace it, so you do not loose any un-replacable data, like pictures and videos and such :) thanks!

I think i have a cheaper solution to your problem. If you hard drive makes sounds and freezes the computer but if you restart it it works it the cable conecting the HDD to the moterboard.I have changed 3 cables because of this problem, try that and if doesn't work buy a new HDD.

I have experienced the same problem months ago. If you say that you heard noises while running your pc chances are you have a hard disk failure. Its more likely that your hardisk is misaligned due to unleveled ground, frequent and sudden shutdown, brown outs or power failure and years of use. Formatting and/or scandisk won't solve the problem since your harddisk may be scratched or misaligned. I think the best think to do is back up your files and buy a new harddisk.

man... old is gold... you listen this slogan. when computer are comes in the market its too much costly. so its all the parts are genuine. now days coputer are cheap so all the parts are not genuine as they are before. i have 9 computers in my office. 4 are p-iv and other 5 are p-i. every week i get prob. in p-iv, but in p-i i get prob. once in 2 months. so old is gold.
