My two favorite parts in that movie was when the fat guy gets killed by the guard because I thought it was hysterical because it was so obvious that they wanted to kill off a character so that they wouldn't have to add another plot line and the escape scene. Seeing Tim Robbins crawl through a tunnel of crap was quite amazing. Anybody going through all the anguish to do so, I must give many props to.

my favourite part of the movie s really hard to discriminate for me....for the whole movie s out f this world xperience for me....but then when pushed to a corner i would say the scene where dufrane so coolly polishes the shoes of the warden and then proceeds to escape s the best part

I love the scene where he (Tim Robbins) pulls out of that sewer, the rain is pouring and hes free! After all those years, and the work he did. It made me cry, he maybe cried himself, but we couldnt see because of all that rain.
It isnt for nothing the movie is called "rain of freedom" over here where i live.
Another scene is where the chief warden goes to the safe and finds the bible with that little hammer in it. Where he writes that he was right, The Word sets you free. (not sure if im quoting perfectly)

This is my favourite movie of all time so I'm glad you brought up this topic!
I love the part near the end when Red is on the bus. The narration goes "I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope."
Beautiful, beautiful movie!

This is definitely one of the best films ever made. I love every scene in it. If I had to give just one scene, I'd say the bit where the warden takes the dirty old shoes from the box but there are some other great scenes that are worth a mention:
Opera being played over the loudspeaker.
When the secret is revealed behind the poster.
When Red's parole is granted.
When Red carves his name by Brooks' name in the guest house.
I could go on and on. Such a moving and really amazing film!
