It's clear now, if it wasn't clear before, that the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns, while still playing in the NBA technically are a very much a league of their own.
They currently, stranghold on the top two spots of NBA Standing.
But while, there's no arguing these two teams are a class the NBA, there's plenty of argue over which is at the head of that class.
And here's your chance to do just that. Who's better? The Mavericks? Or the Suns?

The Mavs are better. The Suns aren't even going to make it to the Western Conference Finals, because they won't be able to beat the Spurs in the second round. Dirk deserves the MVP this year, and with him dominating in th eplayoffs, the Mavs will not be stopped. This is their year.

Well, we'll just update well ourselves for the outcome of the Suns-Spurs exciting duel in the semis. May the best team win, and I'm sure who ever wins will go all the ways to be the 2007 champion.

I would undoubtedly say that the Phoenix Suns (31-8) are the better team of the two. Dallas (33-8) does have plently of great players as well as team chemistry and the stats to prove it all but something about them always seemed weak to me. I think with Phx you have such a well rounded team that can move the ball across the fall almost effortlessly while sharing it among allstars, 3point shooters, and deadly playmakers. You have Nash whose one of the best free throw shooters in the league a 2 time MVP who can visually depict where any of his team members are on the floor without moving his neck. You have Stoudemire whose a dominant beast in the paint with an uncanny ability to manuever his body around defenders, and connecting with plently of inside points, not to mention his rebounding numbers and blocks. Then of course you have plently of perminitor shooters who at any given moment can step behind the arc and bury a 3, guys like Barbosa, Bell, and even Nash again. The bench for Phx is very productive and can get things done as well. Now having said all this I am not taking anything at all away from Dallas bcuz I know Dallas is one of the best teams running, but when its all said and done I'll pick Phx over Dallas anyday, as long as everyones healthy of course.
I can picture it coming down to Phx and Dallas for the Western Conference title, I think Kobe and the Lakers will fall just short of beating San An, and Spurs will lose to PHX. PHX vs Dallas would be such a competitive game esp. since Dallas is hungry from their title loss last season.

The Mavericks are the better team. The biggest reason the Suns have as much success as they do is because they could run. They have a good fast break and have good long range shooters. The Mavericks are a better overall team. Dirk is a scoring machine, Josh can do anything on both defense and offense. Jason makes good decisions, and Jerry contributes with limited playing time.

The Phoenix Suns are better. Steve Nash is the MVP of the league yet again. He plays at an unreal level. Then you have Boris Diaw, maybe the most versatile player in the league, with the exception of Jason Kidd and LeBron James. Shawn Marion is also extremely versatile, and along with Amare Stoudemire, makes up one of the most explosive front courts in the NBA. Put in Raja Bell, a good scorer, and Leandro Barbosa, the candidate for the sixth man of the year award, and you have the best 1-6 in the NBA. Dallas is nearly as good, but even with the breakout of Josh Howard, they do not match up to the Suns. Their starting center, Eric Dampier, in my opinion, is preventing them from being as good as the Suns. Although their record might not reflect it just yet, the Suns are the best team in the league.

Both teams are playing hot at the moment. Who I think will finish farther ahead? Pheonix. But when it comes down to the playoffs when defense matters more I think Dallas has got this. Both teams are very hungry and I hope to see a future playoff matchup between the two. But if I had to pick a West team its the Spurs. They got experience and incredable defense, and maybe not right now but down the road they will be the team to beat. As for the East; its going down between the Heat and the Pistons.

If it was a one-Off game, Phoenix Suns will win. Their game intensity is simply too much for Dallas to handle. However, it is physically strenous for Phoenix Suns to maintain this style of running game. Therefore, in a playoff match game-of-7, Dallas would have a edge over Suns. Dallas has a well-distributed amount of scorer and passer whereas Suns' game run through injury-prone Nash mainly. Barbosa may have speed but certainly not the vision of Nash.
