Bluray disks are awesome. They have gigantic storage capacities. A bluray disc is like a 40GB HDD which is not as heavy and as thick as the latter. This will soon replace DVDs. =)

I agree with you sir . . in the first part .. But not with the second part .. as DVD support is being given in Blue ray disks .. so .. i don't think that Brds will replace dvds . . Thanks for your response !

I once read it in a news paper, this is just great idea, infact china/japan have already implemeneted this and there are many companies in the world doing the same, I hope the cost will reduce as the time passes

The Blu-ray format has received broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, seven of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) are supporting the Blu-ray format. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month. For more information about Blu-ray movies, check out our Blu-ray movies section which offers information about new and upcoming Blu-ray releases, as well as what movies are currently available in the Blu-ray format. you don't have to worry about your existing DVD collection becoming obsolete. In fact, most of the Blu-ray players coming out will support upscaling of DVDs to 1080p/1080i, so your existing DVD collection will look even better than before

I think blue ray disk now is the new media storage which have big capacity. I think it was good as for now harddisk have more bigger capacity like 400Gb and more, and they are cheap also. Yes, maybe they could exchange other media storage like DVD and CD as they have bigger amount of storage capacity.

Hello there! I have to admit that I didn't know much about the Blu-ray disc until you mentioned it in one of my discussions! I went through a couple of sites on the topic and after having gone through the content, I can very well say that these discs have a good chance of replacing the DVDs sometime in the future if not in the near future (keeping in mind the high cost.). The two will coexist for some time. The BR format has garnered support from almost all the major movie studios (Warner, Disney, Sony, Fox, etc.). And once mass production of components starts, the prices will fall quickly. One interesting thing that I came across was the fact that the popularity of the BRDs (whenever that happens!) would not mean our collection of DVDs going obsolete because all the leading consumer electronic companies are said to be keen on churning out products that will be backward compatible with DVD!

You just won yourself a Best Response Garima. Yes.. I too watched a show on ndtv that with the popularity of Blue ray disks, Dvds won't go obsolete because all the Blue ray Drives will be compatible with Dvds.. Well.. in my opinion is Cd is on the verge of getting obsolete now.. As i stopped using Cds upto some extent.. When a single DVD can store data equivalent to 7 Cds why go for Cds? With Blue ray disks coming on .. we are more close to Virtual Reality !

Blue-ray discs changed the way datas are stored. I would not have believed when someone had told about blue-ray disks probably about 10 years ago during the era of floppy disks which stores a little over 1 mb and now 45 GB!! can be store in blue-ray, this is really amazing technology that has been developed. Blue rays disks have forced me to make the floppy disks to use as my coaster these days, yes i use the floppy disks as coasters (double use). LOL.

I don't quite agree with you Johnny Sir. . Having 45 gb in one single CD shaped disk .. is like unimaginable .. There are various movie freaks . . I am .. I tons of movies on my hard disk . and due to lack of space .. I see a movie .. and delete it . and again download another .. but if I have Blue ray disks .. I would probably never have to delete anything! Thanks for your coment!
