Extending a visa

hope everyone is doing fine.. I need some information regarding the visa for Italy. I am right now in Italy for a short term trip and the Visa is stamped to be valid from 17-01-2007 to 24-01-2007. Also the duration of stay is mentioned as 8 days in the visa. Can anyone let me know of it would be possible for me to extend the visa from italy itself for more than a month. The type of visa i am in right now is "C"
