well the best way to backup ur data is to use a double layer dvd!
it gives you ample space-little more than 9 GB!
i guess 9 GB is enough to store your important softwares!
if u want u can use pen drives and the best way i prefer is to use an external USB hard disc!
a 40GB hard disc costs somewhere around 3000
its a one time cost,no need to worry about space!

I use cd to back up my data. I have not tried a dvd yet. For small amounts of information that i need to store, i more usually go for a floppy disk. Sometimes i had to face difficulty when i was not able to retrieve the data from the floppy. So i thik cd is the best choice.

i think that uploading to net is the best option to back up ur data as u can retrieve it at any time and u can even make sure that nothing will happen to it.
cds can be stolen , they cannot be read if they have scratches and many more reasons.
but DVDs are a good option as they contain a lot of data.

theres many ways to backup data as well all know but each method has its downfalls, for instance dvd's could get scratched or exposed to high or low temperatures and be ruined, hard drives can be a good backup but they can also crash and loose all your data but using a second hard drive is better than using just one, for several yrs now i have used 2 hard drives one is for storage and anything i download and i dont want to loose the other is for my operating system (windows) and any programs i install. yes my second hard drive could crash but its more likely that windows would crash than a hard drive just failing on its own this is the method i use and have used for several yrs.

1) You can use cd-r or cd-rw or any data storage discs.
2) or else you can create a virtual drive and copy all your data into it for backup purpose.
3) if you`re using windows xp versions then you can create a system restore point and restore your system by selecting the last proper working machine format without re-installing it. & it won't affect your backup it`ll just update your machine. thx. Good day!
