Its merely because mothers were the usual companion of the kids in the family since they were young. That's why children is used to treat their mothers more important because they'll thought that there more comfortable with them for they're already close to each other since their younger years...

Mothers are given more importance since they stay at home. They are likewise, always the one who is more approachable than fathers. I don't blame fathers anyways. Since, their role is more on how to support the family. So, they always have to go to work. UNLESS, father and mother's responsibility is the other way round. :P

I guess it's only natural to respect the one that gave birth to you. However I don't see my mother as more important than my father.

i think that both r important.
but as u have already said that mother is given more importance than father , this is because mother is the one who remains at home to look after us and take care of us whereas father goes for work and is with us for a limited period of time.
he is not always with us unlike our mother.
so mother is given more importance than father.
