Yes, beating Safin was no small feat. Remember Safin cleaning Sampras's clock years ago in the US Open finals? That says something about his tremendous talent. But he has head problems too (temper). Otherwise, he should have some more Slams under his belt.
But no doubt... the "Jimmy Factor" has much to do with Andy's revival. Jimmy is my all time tennis hero...makes me smile just to see him in the stands watching Andy. What he did for the game is incredible.
So far Andy seems to making the most of Jimmy's help. Andy even beat Federer in the warm up tournament just before the Aussie Open. We're getting into the Quarterfinals now, so things will only get more intense. Unfortunately, Andy and Roger are in the same half of the draw...so the about the only real hope for an American to get to the Finals is James Blake. Most people probably assume it will be a Federer - Nadal Final. Watch out for Mr. Blake though... his time is coming soon I think...if not in Australia, then later this year. And don't underestimate Tommy Haas. He's been around the block with alot of seasoned talent.
