Yes! I love Symphony X. I've only been a fan for a little less than a year now, but I have all their albums and can't wait for the one that's supposed to be coming out this year (supposedly called "Paradise Lost").
I really like the guitars, Michael Romeo can really shred, and Russell Allen's vocal delivery is very powerful. I really didn't think about the drums until I saw a video of them live and since then I realized how awesome their drums are too. Of course the keyboards and the bass are both worth mentioning as well, both very nice.
My favorite thing about Symphony X is that they can be really neo-classical and complex but still so heavy at the same time! I've never heard another band that could do all of these at once. Most of the neo-classical bands I've listened to were more akin to power metal with high, usually nasally voices, and they weren't near as heavy.

that my feel too when i comparing dream theater with symphony x.when you listening dream theater, and when their vocal begin, the music always slowing down.rather than symphony x,when russel allen screaming his great voice, michael romero still playing his high skill guitar fast.beside, the drum is always full of power and these things are mixed by a very harmonic music.

I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. I do like Dream Theater quite a bit, but Symphony X is so much more metal. . . Their music is just more energetic and powerful, and although their voices both fit their styles very well, I like Russell Allen a lot more than James LaBrie.

Maybe the "dark gothic sound" has something to do with The Odyssey album. And they said they'll keep going that way. =P

Most definitely, one of the most complex bands I've heard so far. Although there are two or three "simple" songs like A Winter's Dream I (the backings are very interesting here!), even when they get smooth in Rediscovery I, they play in great harmonic interest and 5/8 bar sig. Fantastic band.
Really looking forward for June: first time I'll watch them live and Paradise Lost!

Yeah, they rocks! One of the most technical band of heavy metal, they sure know how to play metal, haha. Michael Romeo is a hell of a guitarist and Russel Allen is one of my favorite vocals ever!
