does anyone have some advice regarding summer jobs in Scotland please?

Hi I'm helping my son gather some information as he's busy studying (at least he says he is!) He wants to spend summer working/travelling in Scotland and is finding it difficult to get information on how to go about it. He's sent emails to loads of youth hostels in the hope that they have vacancies as well as lodging but the ones who have answered said they have already recruited for summer 2007. He will be 18 in April and wants to go between Beg of June till 1st week in September. He's willing to work in a hostel/guest house/bar or maybe on a farm. So if there is anyone out there who may have done this I'd love to know how you did it. Thanks
