It is a practice in the temple to hung the bell from the top near the entrance. The devotee while entering, first ring the bell and proceed for darshan.
You may ask why do we ring the bell? I say to wake up the Almighty. You may put another question, Does the Almighty sleep? I say let the Lord know I have come. You may ask yet another question, Is it a form of seeking a permission? No! It is a home coming, no permission is required. Lord welcomes to those who comes to His darshan.
I would like to point out the following on ringing the bell.
1.Ringing of bell produces auspecious sound.
2.It produces the sound Aum.
3.Alert the devotees not to divert their minds.
At the aarati, it is a practice to ring the bell accompanied by the sounds of conch and other musical instruments. The purpose of all this is to concentrate the minds of devotees in the Lord only.
