I was SHOCKED at what one of the executive producers Carlton Cuse said in response to one of the questions.
It might be true but then its very very dissapointing if it is so, at least for me.
Here is what he said...
"......But when we sit down and we work on the stories, we're primarily spending most of our time talking about these characters and how they interact. And I think that if the characters became focused on the mythology, a lot of people would drop out. I think there's a much larger audience that's much more interested in who is Kate going to choose than the details about who Alvar Hanso is."
Woah! I was truly disappointed by that statement. LOST: A Soap Opera!

I have to agree with you. The show is all the more interesting for the fact that is has all these different, off-the-wall storylines going on. The character interactions are interesting, but it's not what makes the show so addicting. Unfortunately, there are alot of people that only get into the show if it has all those "soap opera" setups in it. Which I think is a little sad. A good story is one that can encompass all of it, and pull it off. And I think this show is one that does it. I hope it keeps going for awhile, just because there are SOOOO many unanswered questions that need to be tied up. If they were to cancel it prematurely, there would be alot of fans severely p*ssed off!

I think it is true too....I wish it was not. Personally I don't care who Kate chooses. So many good shows end up doing this though.... start out with really good stories and then end up turning it into a plain old soap opera.....If I want soap opera, I'll watch Desperate Housewives or something......

I do not watch "Lost", so I do not care. I watch "Heroes".

So the Lost Experience game is just there to string us along until Kate chooses a boyfriend? ::tears out hair::
I'm way more interested in Alvar Hanso and the Dharma Initiative than who Kate wants to get jiggy with.

Are you sure Cuse wasn't joking? I hope he was joking. lol
I think LOST has always had a nice balance between drama and Sci-Fi. People who enjoyed life drama could really get into the island life and flashbacks, while the people who enjoyed Sci-fi could eat up the stuff with the monster and polar bears. LOST was so great because both audiences liked both either from the start or after a while. Now I think they are losing touch with their Sci-Fi fans, and the life drama fans are just a lot louder.
I remember when the show first started "ship" forum threads weren't that larger, but theory threads were. Now it seems like the "ship" threads have taken over, but that doesn't mean all we're interested in is who Kate's going to do it with.
Like I've said in all my other posts I hope they start picking up the story and moving in a forward direction. No more take one step forward to turn around and take two steps back.

Yes, a good balance between Sci-fi and drama is essential. There are sci-fi fans and there are drama fans out there and as far as the response i'm getting here i can see that there are more of the drama fans in mylot. OK, maybe the drama part is selling right now, but i wish that they don't do away with the sci-fi part of it completely. The least they can do is answer the loads of mysteries about the island and others.

Lost isnt a soap opera at all and i like his statement the idea of a series is to make it as popular as possible so combining a lot of different things is better than just concerntrating on one thing and only getting a certain targeted audience. they are obviously ttrying to apeal to all types of audiences which is good it will make the whole show bigger and perhaps make it last a lot longer than other series' i see his point and its a good point.

Hey, I didnt say that Lost is a soap opera, what i said was Lost could be a soap opera, if producer Carlton Cuse goes his way and creates a Lost full with all drama and less or no sci-fi. I'm not saying that I don't like the drama part of it. The drama part is good. But hey, the sci-fi part completes the show.

actually, every producer wanna produce something which is the best for the consumers..and which, in turn renumerates them with a good earning inspite in accordance to keeping in mind the egular costs and expenses incurred to them in making the suitable products..! they wanna pure devotion and work from their inferiors and for what they are pounding with u a lot of income...just all these things are to be kept in mind always

I'm interest in romance and it's true that there are people who watch Lost just for romance but this doesn't mean that Lost is a soap opera! Jate relationship has nothing to deal with Soap opera! It's epic love story!

I have actually stopped watching Lost this season, mostly because I have been too busy, but partly because I was tired of them never resolving ANYTHING to do with the mythology. Gee, people are being chased by smoke and seeing people on the island that shouldn't be there... and NO ONE every talks about it! Drives me nuts.

ya, drives me nuts too. it's like we are waiting for the mystery to unfold but it never comes when we want it to. it's somewhat frustrating. but hey that's what is good about lost. it will always keep you guessing. thanks for your response.

I honestly think it's true. A lot of Lost fans are pre-teen or teenage females wanting to see which 'dreamy' guy is going to get the girl. That's fine, that storyline is fine as long as they keep going with the less Soap Opera-y storylines as well.
