i dont think it is normal to put diapers on a dog , not in my country anyway , byt if it works... my puppy is also ghard to train and if he doesnt get enough attention he pees all over ther house. it is very annoying and i put him out in the utility room for 10 minutes.he looks very contrite but does the same thing again . i did find it helps if i put him out regularly but the weather is very bad at the munute and he is quite small so i dont want to lose him in the high winds.

putting him in diapers is never going to teach him. training a dog takes time, patience and consistency. you said you live in canada where it is cold, buy him a doggy coat then so he can go outside or have a place say in the laundry with paper down where he can do his business. if you can take him for a walk after he has eaten so he can do his business outside and praise him when he does and make a big fuss that he did well. good luck

You may want to take him to the vet to be sure there are no physical problems preventing him from holding it. It could be any thing from worms to infections. I would do that first, then attempt to housebreak. As for house breaking it takes time, patience and you have to stick to a schedule. Taking him out first thing in the morning and last thing at night, are two most important times. Then offering to do so every couple of hours between time. There are many resources on the net that can give you a bit more details.

I think you should just have the right attitude from the beginning and he just have patience he will get to know you and were you live. Also try to teach him to use the bathroom. I know it sounds funny but I have a friend who did that and his dog goes to the bathroom and it helped him out.
