Is fifteen years behind bars enough?

My eighteen-year-old son's girlfriend was attacked at knife-point recently, abducted and raped.
Excellent police work accompanied by a little luck brought the perpetrator to justice almost immediately... and he was found guilty at trial, and sentenced to fifteen years with the possibility of parol in ten.
Having witnessed the grief experienced by my son... and the devastation which will haunt this young seventeen-year-old for the rest of her life... I feel this sentence for a "repeat offender" is little more than a slap on the wrist.
What do you think? Is fifteen years enough?

No not nearly enough especially since he was a repeat offender, what is this world coming to?? She will remember that for the rest of her life, I just hope that she can conquer her fears and live a normal life. I wish the best for your son and his girlfriend.

Fifteen years is more than enough. What I think is that prison is only used to make examples to discourage people form doing this. I know that if I committed a crime, I would be able to learn what I did was wrong in much less than fifteen years.

i work with these guys in prison every day. Rest assured my friend he will serve his full term, i cant imagine any prison governer sanctioning a rapist for parole. Wtf is a rapist doing getting off with 15 years, unless there are extreme mittigating circumstances in U.K he would get a life sentence ranging from 18 to 99 minimum tarrif (with no chance of parole before this date).
I think rape should be punished fully, simply because it is hard to proove and rarely gets to court anyway.
blessed be

Unfortunately this is the way that the system "works". I don't agree with it at all. I hate that people that commit the same crime get such different sentences. It just doesn't seem right. It's also not right that repeat offenders keep getting away with it, and then the judges decide to make examples out of a first time offender. There just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason and that's bothered me forever!

i do not think 15 years is enough. i actually do not think that he will be able to pay for what he has done, not only to the girl, the girl's family and friends, your son and even to your family. if he has done this before it is definitely not enough.
i am hoping and praying that you guys can overcome this. i am really sorry that this happened. God Bless!
