Social promotion is when public schools pass failing students to the next grade level just because they are falling too far behind from their peers.
Do you agree with this practice? Is it wise to promote a kid just because he or she is getting older? Would it be wiser to drop students from school who fail more than 3 times maybe?
What are your thoughts on this?

Grade retention as been proven over the years NOT to work than work. When you keep a child behind from their peers, they tend to shut down and the result are not positive.
Social promotion is a good idea not being properly used. The idea is to promote the child, but target the problem and find a solution as well. For instance, a child at one time could have been retained due to very low reading levels. Now they must be promoted. The problem is schools are doing just that, and not addressing the reading problem it's self. Many States in this country refuse to acknowledge the existence of Dyslexia, a very common reading disorder. By not addressing, the problem children who are dyslexic will never be able to over come their disadvantage.
So when used properly yes social promotion is a very good idea. However once again, public schools are half _ssing it and not doing the rest of the work required to help the children.
