I just love gifts in a jar, and I love Coke so this was a perfect combination for me. They are great to make as gifts for those college students, working mothers, elderly or anyone else. I just make a few with the same theme in mind. Tuck them into a pretty basket and it is the perfect homemade gift. Great for wedding gifts, birthdays, baby showers (it will give the family more time with the new baby, just add a rattler to the ribbon) I just love them and they are alwys well recieved.
Gifts In A Jar - Coke Cola Cake
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 1/4 Tbsp. cocoa
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/8 cups mini marshmallows
Directions
Layer all ingredients in canning jar
Don’t forget to Attach the following card:
Add:
3/4 cup Butter
3/4 cup Cola
1/4 + 1/8 cup Milk
2 Eggs beaten
1 Tsp. Vanilla
Dump jar mix into large bowl set aside. Combine butter and cola in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
Pour cola mix over jar cake mix, blending well. Add remaining ingredients.
Pour into 9x13 inch pan and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.

I love Cocoa Cola. But since having to change my eating habits to low carbs due to being borderline diabetic, I have a question about this recipe.
Could the sugar be substituted with Splenda?
And could the Coke be substituted with Diet Coke?
I like a good recipe like the next person.
But I am finding most recipes here that I can not eat.

I see no reason why you could not use any kind of coke or any other kind of cola for that matter. Splenda should also work fine.

Hi! Don't you have to be careful about heating certain artificial sweeteners? A lot of soldiers during the gulf war got sick from diet sodas because the sweeteners in them turned to formaldehyde in the heat. So, wouldn't you have to be careful about heating sweeteners like aspartame?

You are wonderful. This is the second receipe that I have come across of yours. I copy and pasted both. I have tryed to be request to be added as one of your friends, but I am not sure how to do it. I hope I did it right if not would you either tell me how or request to me. Perhaps we can exchange a few okay. I have tryed your other receipe for cream sauce and it was wonder ful. Hope you respond to me . But thank you any way.

I have not done the gifts in a jar, but this one might just "take the cake". I know it does not have to be put in the jar, you are giving us both a recipe and a gift idea. I imagine it could be made with splenda, like Brokentia asked. I would probably use cherry coke. :=)

This sounds good, I've never made this and I bake alot of different cakes. I will have to give it a try! Thanks for the recipe. The gift idea is nice, similiar to the Amish Friendship Cakes....have you ever tried those...I'm still looking for the recipes, my grandma used to make the Amish Cakes and give as gifts, and that was about 20 years ago, and she cant find the recipe anymore!

We have a recipe for a cola cake too, but it is at home and I am not... I copy and pasted yours to my hard drive as I want to compare the two. I don't remember ours having marshmallows in it. It has been many years since I had one. My mom used to make them and I remember that I liked them. Sometimes she would make a fudge icing that hardened a little bit and frost it with that for us kids as we would not eat cake without frosting.. Now i will have to make one just so I can remember what it tastes like.. :)

That is a really great gift idea and it sounds like a good recipe, as well. It would be really nice to give or receive a gift like that. Just put a little ribbon on it and it is good to go or like you said, put it in a pretty little basket and attach the recipe. Great idea! Thanks.

Yummy! A Coca Cola Cake Recipe!
I have never tried a Coca Cola Cake but, this sure does sound delicious.
I wonder what it would taste like with a different soda. Maybe Pepsi, Mountain Dew, etc. LOL
Thanks for the great recipe! :D

COCA COLA and otherbrans of drinks are the most hatred gifts in my country. THey contain pesticide ingradients. There factories here add more amount of poisones ingredeants than in other developed countries. They had did this sin witout our knowledge. These bad guys are sufeering for this now. A great fal down happened in the sales. Even though the gverment failed to bann them, by failing to there money sag, but the people here had abondend that products from there use. I too did it. I CANT BUY AND DRINK POISON

i always thought those where cool to give out as "generic" gifts during christmas..like sugar cookies or chex mix. i first saw it when my aunt gave us an oatmeal cookie mix in a jar...really nice layout, layered with the card. i also live near knotts berry farm, and found A LOT of those type of things. but their in a can and they come with little pans because most of them are the personal size ones. its too cute. i wanted to do that one year, but when i have more good friends who like cooking to give it to. most of the people are my husbands friends...guys...so most of them won't know how to use an oven...lol hehe

I've never heard of this recipe although I have seen the bake in the jar gifts before but usually with cookie mixes. I'm going to have to try this one. It sounds yummy and different. Never had pop in cake before but it should give it an interesting taste and I bet depending no the pop used it would change it slightly.
