It is not enought to limit for a children birthday gift.Giving the knowledge of money to them.As we know, there is not any course during the educational period. So as parents,we have the duty to tell them about the money. Then children will control the money by themselves.

It depends on how good of a friend they are. If per say it is their best friend I'm more apt to spend more money on them. Also depends on how much they spent on your child.. would the parent be offended if you spent $30.. instead of $20. On average we usually spend $20 unless it a close friend or family member (cousin that is a friend) then we spend more.. Up to $40.

When my children were younger (before they started school) I use to spend around $20 per gift. However, when they were younger, they had fewer friends so they weren't invited to nearly as many parties. Since they have started school, it seems they get invited to everyone's party. Not that this is a bad thing, but I cannot afford to spend $20 per gift when they are invited to a party almost every weekend. So, now I put $10 in a card for everyone unless it is actually a child they play with all the time, as I think the kids in school just invite everyone in their class for the most part.
