Do you have your PC overclocked?
I have overclocked my CPU, it is a AMD x2 3880+ @ 2000MHz, and I have set it @2500MHz, a very good increase int he performance. And my graphic card too, a nVidia 7600GT that is at stock 560/1400Mhz @ 600/1700MHz. It is riskless for me cause my pc refrigeration is very good.

it can be done through tweaking the setting in your "system setup" or "BIOS". but first verify first the you have adequate cooling or ventilation on your system cause thing do get really hot in the process. then you'll just have to increase the FSB (if allowed by your motherboard, most pre-built systems like dell do not) little by little until you reach a high enough stable clock/speed or until you're satisfied.

i do practice overclocking, i have an old A64 +3000 @ 1.8Ghz, but i was able to select a godstep steeping so even when i overclock it i dont have to increase the CPU voltage so lower risks. i have it running a 2.4Ghz but when i need some extra muscle i can raise it upto 2.7Ghz but thats about it, my motherboard cant handle any higher that this. my board is a cheap asrock one so i don't blame it. as for my video card i had a gainward 7800GT and was able to overclock it, it performs like a golden sample even though it was not. i upgraded it to an asus EN8800GTX so i don't have to overclock it as its already fast
