Many people purchase those small packets of gravy mixes. They are loaded with preservatives and MSG. They are also expensive. It may not seem like they cost you much but once you make your own homemade mixes, you will change your mind radidly. This is a mix that you make and package yourself. I often put them into sandwich bags and label them. You will never purchase a commercial mixes again.
Chicken Gravy Mix
1 1/3 cup instant nonfat dried milk
3/4 cup flour
3 tablespoons instant chicken bouillon granules
1/4 teaspoon ground sage
1/8 teaspoon ground thyme
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup butter or margarine
Combine powdered milk, bouillion, sage, thyme and pepper. Stir with a wire whisk until blended. Use a pastry blender or 2 knives to cut in butter or margarine until evenly disctibuted. Spoon into a 3 cup container with a tight fitting lid. Label with date and ingredients. Store in fridge. Use within 6- 8 weeks. Makes 2 2/3 cups of Mix.
Now that you have your original mix made, you are ready to make your gravy.
Chicken Gravy
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup chicken gravy mix (recipe above)
Pour water into a saucepan. Use a whisk to stir chicken gravy mix into water. Stir constantly over medium heat until gravy is smooth and slightly thickened, 2- 3 minutes. Makes 1 cup of gravy.

Ohhh, thanks! I hate using the mixes from the store because I know what all lurks within! This is certainly easy enough, even for a cooking-phobe like myself! My husband loves gravy and would have it every meal if I would allow it!

Thanks for the great recipe. I used to buy ready to use sauces like Teriyaki, Sweet & Sour but none ever came close to the taste of the restaurant made ones so I researched online and found some really good recipes so now I never buy ready made anymore.

This is way cool, and a time and money saver too. You have some of the coolest recipes that I am adding to my recipe book. I don't have much to share with anyone on creative recipes though.

Great recipe. I often use those mixes you buy from the grocery store, but they are expensive and as you said do have MSG and other ingredients that I would rather not ingest.

I have a great recipe that your gravy might go real well...(tongue in cheek)
Baked Stuffed Chicken
6-7 lb. chicken
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good)
1 cup uncooked popcorn (Orville Redenbacher's low fat)
salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's a$$ blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across the room, it is done.
And, you thought I couldn't cook ........

Now that sounds perfectly easy and very tasty .. and as you say much better than all those nasty additives they put in gravy mixes these days ..
I wonder if the mix would freeze ?? I might give it a go .. just try a little and se what happens .. I always have problems with mixing up batches of foods as being single I really only need small amounts of things ..

I have not tried to freeze it but I see no reason why it would not freeze. I often freeze my flour. Let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for that great recipe. I have printed it out so that I can try it. We usually use Bisto but I would prefer to make my own. You wonder if they list all the ingredients of what they really put in stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Hi! I just wanted to thank you and everyone for posting such great recipe ideas! My notepad has been very busy this weekend! LOL Tonight I'm making a recipe for dinner that someone posted here. I'm very excited to be finding different recipes because I'm a person who tends to get into ruts and fix the same things over and over. Thanks again!
