Weird/bizarre way to make money - diamond hunting in parking lots!

Apparently, parking lots are where most diamonds pop out of their settings, because of temperature changes when people get out of their cars. Who knew that you could go diamond hunting in a parking lot! But apparently, there is at least one old couple who does, and claim that they can spot the sparkle of a diamond from 100 feet away! (I would personally feel really badly taking someone else's diamond that had fallen out of their ring, but hey.) Interesting discussion. I wouldn't know a real diamond if I saw one. I dont own a diamond and have no desire for one.

That is very interesting I myself can't spot one that easy. I do have a metal detector I thought of using at a park or at the beach I got it at a yard sale after seeing this I just may have to use it sooner then vs later.

You know, that is pretty interesting! I guess the next time I am walking through a parking lot, I will be watching for sprakling to standout. :) I have found money in the parking lot. But nothing big. 10 bucks here and a dollar there. But if I found a diamond....wow! But how would I know it is a dimond and not glass? I think that would be the problem.

These guys must have some sharp eyes to spot the diamonds in the parking lot. I once found a gold braclet and with diamonds in it in a parking lot.

I can see this doing for the reward, but not to keep the diamond as your own. The diamonds are in the parking lot because someone lost it, not because they formed there. That means they belong to someone else. Keeping them would be wrong.

While I could see how this would happen, I don't think its right. Probably the best reaction to finding a diamond would be to turn it into the store that you found it from. I would hope that this is what the majority of people would do, but it may not be. I don't know how that would be viewed, while maybe its not quite stealing, it is borderline!

Talk about a weird way of making some money. But wow i can't believe that they would do something like that. I think at least they should return the diamond instead of selling it to someone... Some people in the world only care for money...

wow hunting diamonds in parks sounds really odd and strange ;) but well - maybe it is profitable but you have to spend so much time on searching that it is better to take a normal job ;)

Well then, that's one way to make money. I wish I could spot a diamond at that distance. It would make life a lot easier. lol

I think its mean to take a diamond from a parking lot and not turn it in! If I found one, I would turn it in! At least the person who lost the diamond would have a chance to reclaim it! What if the diamond belonged to someone's great grandmother? What if the diamond belonged to someone who can't afford to replace it? What if the diamond has irreplaceable sentimental value? Wow. I hope I never loose a stone when you're in the parking lot! LOL!

That sounds weird! I mean, how big are the chances of actually finding one AND recognising it!? I always laugh at the people that keep searching the big beach at my greandparents with metal detectors, because I assume they mostly just find litter, but who knows? Maybe they actually find something... although my suspicion is that they would be paid more by the hour by taking a "normal" jobb, than if they split the worth of something they found by the ammounts of hours they've spent on looking for it! Although, I have my self lost an ear-ring and a necklace on a beach, none of them specially valuable, but still - someone might have found them...

hahaha ill have to try that. In earlier years ive done something similar, hanging out outside pub doors at closing time watching people drop money and wonder off without noticing, of course i always hand it in to the police lol

That is strange. Will given my eyesight there is not way. Heck I have a hard time spotting glass in a parking lot, much more a diamond. Did you see the one after that, about the shag rug? I don't know about that one, I could see maybe some stones, but coins? Did this theater never vacuum? LOL.

I'd think you'd be better off posting here on MyLot! Seems far more likely to garner a bit of extra income than doing that! But hey, they are old, right? Perhaps it's just their hobby. Let's hope they don't get hit by a car.

wow thats weird. but, hey cool huh?! do really people wear a diamond ring or any jewelry when going to the market? and usually this would be in the afternoon. most people go for dinner where in there would be no sun to heat their precious jewelries to make the diamonds pop out of their setting. but hey, it can happen. as for me that would not be possible here in the philippines. hihi
