Today, the world is experiencing or rather facing a lot of crises and one of which is poverty. We all know that most of the countries are experiencing such this problem. In response to this, I as a citizen of a country from a third world country would like to know opinions of other people about this certain topic. I am from the Philippines and response from the people around world will be greatly appriciated.... thank you....
What is your definition of poverty?
With this definition, do you think your country is experiencing poverty? (please indicate your country or your location)
If so, what are the current issues in your country related to this to make you say that your country is experiencing poverty?
What do you think are the factors why your country is experiencing this condition?
Who do you think are the people responsible for this and what could they have done to prevent it or at least lessen this?
In your opinion, is there still a way for your country to solve this problem?
What solution do you suggest?
If this solution of your succeeds, what are/is the country/s that could possibly use this strategy?
Why do you think that these/this country are/is need of this solution?

poverty exists in every single country in the world, even in the US. i think one of the best ways to decrease or even eliminate poverty is through education. education can really, in my opinion, help fix most of the problems in the world. its just a matter of educating people through which they know how to speak up against the government, protect themselves, seek opportunities for a better life, stay healthy, start a business, etc. im currently studying human rights and the issue of poverty comes into play everywhere in my studies.

Weeelll Kiddies,
Time for some home truths that nobody wants to hear...
Western nations like the USA nad even Australia are in the grip of poverty - a creeping, stealth poverty that they are keeping hidden by smoke, mirrors and lots of jugging numbers and credit card balances...
It's what I would refer to as DELAYED poverty - people are actually living paycheck to paycheck, they owe 10 times more than they can possibly hope to pay off in loans and other debt - people are BANKRUPT without actually ADMITTING it... and sooner or later the PIPER will have to be paid...
This is all relative, of course, because most Western nations are still a lot better off - there aren't actually too many people starving in the street YET - than many nations where the populations are literally refugees in their own country, or literally have NOTHING...
BUT the economic actuality in most Western nations is also MUCH WORSE than the political spin-doctors would have us all believe... the Western nations aren't nearly as "rich" as they once were - they're just not admitting it, that's all... and the problem for them is the same as the problem everywhere else - it seems to be a constant feature of any human poplation - the RICH get RICHER, while the POOR get the PICTURE, unfortunately AFTER the cards have already been dealt BY THE RICH.

my country is india and here also the poverty is prevailing like anything and there are various factors responsible for this. the most important factor is the corrupt politicians. they use the poor people as their tools for voting etc.
other factor is increasing population which leads to unemployment.
illiteracy is also responsible as the people who are uneducated dont know anything about family planning which leads to povery and other social evils. i have decided to do someting for my country but i m still not established to help poor but soon i will take some important steps.

yes, this is really a big problem. Half the world - nearly three billion people - live on less than 2 dollars a day & nearly 1 billion people entered 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. Less than 1% of what world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 & yet it did,t happen. i billion chidren live in poverty & about 640 million live without shelter. poverty is the state for the majority of the world's people & nations. Is it enough to blame poor people for their own predicament? Have they been lazy, made poor decisions, & been solely responsible for their plight? what about their government? acutally this is a big issue and governments have to think about this issue in priority base and must take steps to stop this..

However, I think that you have to attack the problem from the top down and the bottom up.
If debt reduction and foreign aid happen to the degree that has been promised the momentum is lost unless the people in Africa are able to capitalize on the opportunity.
It is hard to make a living, provide for your family, or start a new business when you spend your time and energy looking for safe drinking water or your next meal. We in the West take for granted our infrastructure that allows us to focus more of our energy on work and our ability to get ahead, provide for our families, etc. How much time did you spend today looking for water or standing in line for water or food?
My answer is that the next step must be to establish a framework for what basic infrastructure must be present in each community (ie: access to food, water, health facilities, transportation, roads, education, daycare) to allow the people in those communities to work effectively and productively.
Working from the ground up I would suggest that the ONE campaign expand to coordinate the partnering of a sponsoring community/city/town with a similar sized one in Africa. But, unlike sister communities around the world that are strictly symbolic, the communities that adopt a "sister" in Africa must work with them to build their community to the minimum infrastructure framework that is established by the campaign. It could even be a competition in the sense that the people of a city in Norway could be competing with the people of a city in Canada or the USA to meet and exceed the framework standards set out in a given time frame.
Unlike many charities that ask for money, wouldn't it be rewarding to know that your city is working to provide a better life and future for one in Africa. You would know where your money is going, where work is being done, and who is doing it. We all have a certain skill set and in your community there is a group of people who could make a real difference to ONE city/town/community in Africa.
We all tend to sit back and expect our politicians and leaders to fix the problems of the world and then complain that things don't seem to be getting much better.
The people need to take control and be part of the solution.

I think every country has her own poor people, but the big difference is in the percentes. I live in a country in full development, just entered the U.E. and evolved a lot, but still there is a big unbalance between the rich and the poor, it just seems there is no middle way

poor can be defined as "the state of a person being unsatisfied with what he has got and thinks it is very less."
noone is born poor every one comes from mother... and her love is all you want... and if you dont have mom dad's care is all you need.... then you are the richest person....
since this topic is related to money, everyone is poor ask anyone do they have enough.. they say that they dont have any thing...
my country is nepal and it is poor... specially in economic terms.. it is a small country .. and poor aswell..

I'm from America and our country as well is experiencing a rapid high in poverty. And the government here tries to help, but it just doesn't have enough money. People with normally great jobs are now getting laid off and they can't find another. And unemployment runs out before that.
And currently in my state of Michigan, you can't get cash. So you can't get help to pay rent or anything else like that, unless you're really, really poor and then it's usually not enough to keep you in your home/apartment.
And that's unfortunately how most here have become homeless. Granted a lot of the homeless are from being mentally afflicted, but a majority of our countries homeless are families who couldn't keep their homes after they were laid off.

For me poverty is poor or lack of food, shelter, clothes or everything or people who can't afford to buy expensive stuff. The reason for these are laziness, over populated, and corrupt government and to solve this problem you should fired the corrupt people but i don't know if there are still people you can trust,i think everybody is corrupt in there,i am also from the Philippines.Thats all i can say.

I would define poverty as being unable to finance your necessities not your wants but your needs. I live in the u.s and i don't believe that we are in poverty except for maybe te people devastated by hurricane katrina. i do think though that there is something we ca do for people that are in poverty like the people in africa. I think that we can send support to them or you know for someone that is such a daredevil go to africa and attempt to help bring them back and house them with you

The perspective towards poverty depends on how do we define poverty. If we define as the state of people having the least in the society than poverty is always there. (although communism promises to remove poverty, it is just a utopian thought). However if we define poverty to be the situation where a human being is having less than what is required than we can certainly remove poverty.
Again puritans can raise the objection over "required". Who will define required and so on ? In my opinion, requirement is defined by ourselves. People even after earning have the lust for billions and hence consider themselves poor. Whereas there are people who don't have much to eat but still are happy with what they have.
If we take this viewpoint then poverty is more of a state of mind and indicates towards our aspirations. However it doesn't means that we should deprive people of basic necessity and ask them to be philosophically rich.

poverty is a condition that we dont have anything to survive.in my country many people in that condition.btw my country is indonesia.i think is in a country have many jobs for people then poverty will be decrease.and its not our government responsibility but we should take the responsibility because we are the citizen of that country.
i think in many country want to solve that problem with their way and of course that good for their citizen.my suggestion is make many of jobs open for the citizen but i think dont just like their certificated, but look how they can work.i think this can be used for another country too.hey its just one suggestion so please be happy :D

I live in San Diego, California and work with a lot of street kids. Many of these kids poverty effects them and their families.
Many of these kids are American Mexicans and their family providers work in service trades and get paid minimum wage.
Another factor in San Diego is that Imminent Domain is taking family owned business, that are passed down from generation to generation, with below value payments and replacing them with condominiums, hotels and parking garages, in the names of Corporate America and progress.

iam from india. india is a developing country and is facing lots of crisis.
poverty is one of the main crisis and i really wanted to know how other countries have come out of this crisis.
many people in our country are below poverty line and the main reason i feel is the ever increasing population.
how can we make people realise?
what should the govt do.. try to develop the nation or bring the people out of the poverty line.
of course bringing people out of poverty line means developing the country but i dont know when out country will be called as a developed country.
but iam really satisfied by the current position of our country in the world. we are excelling in many aspects the important one being in IT industry.
lets hope for the best.

Hi Veronica..!!!
My Defnition is very simple...!!!!!
If every one works exactly for the wages they earn in the governmental instiutions/organisations and by " NOT TAKING BRIBE ". NO country in the world will be a country termed as " Poverty Country"
