Would you get get on a plane for a trip? Have your car worked on? Have someone disarm a bomb? Build you a house? Take care of all your money? If they were practicing to do any of these. I'm asking would want anyone to practing or learning these jobs or careers to be doing any of these things for you. If the answer is yes then so be it, you will get what you asked for. Then why is we accept doctors and lawyers that are practicing their profession? You certainly wouldn't get on a plane with a practicing pilot now would you? If these so called doctors and lawyers are practicing, should they be doing this in school and not out in the public sector. No wonder we end up with results in the courts and hospitals that defy logic.

I agree with you, twist. If I were in doctor's office and found out that I would be the first real patient of said doctor, to be honest with you I'd probably walk out.
If I were on a plane and knew that a trainee were at the helm, so-to-speak, I'd probably try my best to get off the plane, etc.
But, if you think about it, somehow, someway they are going to have to do their stuff in the 'real' world. Somebody has to be the guinea pig...lol
And, if you think about it we all put our lives in the hands of others at times without ever knowing their background. So is life I guess. What else can we do about it?

well that is why when you go to a hospital you should read the papers that you signed, and make sure that it is not a university hospital for there you will only get students, every one should check out his/her hospitals or clinics they attened before going to it :)

When you go in the emergency room you usually have little choice. You get what's there and maybe an intern. My point was really why they use the term practicing in this profession. Would you want to fly with a practing pilot?

Being that you put it this way, the answer would have to be no.

LOL I wouldn't get on a plane with a 25 year expert! This is an interesting topic. I do go to a University (teaching) hospital and have had surgery there. I know the Dr is still learning but the teaching Dr is there also to see that he does what he or she is supposed to do. I am not one to run around filing law suites for a living like some people. Some people just look for stuff to file a law suit for.

You wouldn't get on the plane but you would go to the emergenct room and get the first doctor there. Wheither it's a new intern or veteran doctor and they are all practicing. Seems strange to put you life in folks practicing doesn't.
