Cotton Wool Children

I am amazed in how many parents refused to let their kids out the front door just to play with other kids down the street! I remember when I was a kid over 30 nearly 40 years ago, our parents didnt hear from us all day but we knew to be home by dinner or when the sunsets. Today kids are suffering what they call Cotton Wool Syndrome (CWS) because of the increase of nasty events. So these kids are kept inside playing on the computers, watching Foxtel, playing Nintendos, X-Box and SMS their friends on their mobile phone. I have also noted an increase in lack of family events outside the homes. This is where the obesity, lack of fitness comes into it and everyone complains about it rather than get out and get some sunshine and have some fresh air in their lungs and to also enjoy the freedom while it lasts! tell me what you think of this CWS

My girls are not allowed to play in the front yard unless I am right there to watch them. No, I don't let them go down the street unsupervised to go play. There are way to many things that can happen. I still walk the older 2 to & from school every day. My girls do not spend all day on the computer or playing a video game. My older one does love to read though. They get to play sports & go to classes threw the park. The world is a differnt place than it was when I was growing up. I am not willing to let my girls roam the streets just because others let their kids.

Kids not being outside so much these days isn't just due to CWS...they are just getting lazier! Instead of going and playing a game of footy down at the oval they would prefer to play reality football on the computer or the playstation! It's terrible! But the whole CWS is a real problem - I know things aren't as good as they used to be, saftey wise, but there is still no excuse for keeping kids indoors and (the one I hate the most) trying to keep them absolutely spotless! How do you expect these kids to be healthy if you never let them near any germs! lol In general the healthiest kids are the ones who run around in the park and eat a bit of dirt, pick up lollies that they have dropped etc etc.
