Without a doubt I think that it is going to be English. In fact, I thought that it already was the "Universal language". I know that it most countries kids learn English as well as take courses in their native language.

English is the is the number one "official" language. Others in line are French, Spanish and Portuguese (I'm not sure but maybe there is one ahead of the latter but I can't think of it at the moment).

It depends on which country will conquer the Universe first.Currently English is official language for the world. But,IF suddenly other country other than USA invents better space technology and then conquer all planets and outer space, the universal language is not English anymore, since that country succeed in proving to the whole world it is the best. I predict Chinese will be the universal language since that country was able to make its own space program in a very short time(NASA takes longer time).Chinese people will colonise all planets before other races manage to do the same. However,English still becomes the official language on the Earth.

I doubt very much that I will ever live to have to learn a universal language should one ever be "invented". It seems highly unlikely that one would ever be considered in that it would take many years for billions of people to learn a new language. Therefore, I will agree with you that English will remain as the preferred official language in this universe...mainly because it is taught in more schools in the world than any other language. Even the Chinese are coming into their own in English as most of the scientific and technical books are written in English.

Isn't it yet? I guess English is already the universal language. I've been to a few non-English speaking countries and the only way i could communicate with people is to speak in English. Most official documents usually have translations both in a countries native language as well as in English. So, i guess it has been adopted as a universal language. In fact, in my home country (Philippines), the medium of instruction in schools is in English.
