I think that the punishment should be stiff no matter what. Maybe if people had tougher fines and jail time the first time that they were caught they would think really long and hard about doing it again. I think that there should also be a mandatory revocation of the driver's license for 1-5 years.
If a drunk driver injures or kills someone, the jail time should be extensive, and the person should never be allowed to drive again. There should be a zero tolerance policy for drinking and driving. If not, people will keep doing it.

Now that's the result we want. Make it miserable for the offender so that he doesn't do it ever again. I would have made the fine a bit higher, also- don't tell him, because I'm sure he thinks enough is enough!

I agree one hundred percent with laurie. If the penalties were stiffer, people would think twice about getting behind the wheel of their car when they've been drinking.

I don't understand this either. why are there still so many people driving with a record of drunk driving. they need to make the laws harder on them.
