Are some things easier to talk about online than offline?

Do you find that some topics are easier for you to tackle in forums like this one than they are to discuss offline?
Personally I've often found myself to be more open to discussing things online that offline. For example, if there's a situation going on in my life that is challenging, I might not have anyone not directly involved to talk to about it. Also if I want to discuss an issue with people with a wide range of backgrounds and viewpoints, I know I'll find that on the internet more so than in the small town in which I live.
Of course this anonymity that sometimes makes conversation easier also allows people to be rude or thoughtless without any real consequence. Overall I think the benefits outweigh this, as having such conversations has led me into many friendships that have lasted years without ever moving offline.
Any thoughts?

i think its because people online can't judge you, so they prefer to have or join conversations online

*nods* Even if someone online does say something hurtful for you, most of the time it's pretty easy to ignore it. Also, they only know what you have talked to them about, so they're not going to judge you based on appearance, status, income, family history, etc.

Thats tough to answer really...I mean online i'm very open but I am in real life too..and I dont think (though I coudl be wrong) I'm less inclined to be open or have any troubles talking with ppl about serious things in real life....At least not that I'm aware of anyway

I have a hard time talking with people in real life about anything. I have a tendency to sit back and just listen for the most part. So when I do have a problem I really can't talk with anyone except for my friends on line or with forums like this. I can vent, I can worry, be upset or be happy and I don't have to worry. Not only about possible judgement but also about hurting anyone right around me. I doubt my problems with my family for example will hurt anyone on line but it could hurt someone in the family if I talked with them about it. So there is that advantage. Yes I've seen my share of rude or insensitive people but for the most part they are few and far between. The rest of the people on here make up for it.

Yup! That's exactly how I feel! I've met so many wonderful people online that I've been able to share things with that I just can't offline. It's especially hard for me sometimes because I moved to a place where I only know people my husband was friends with before me, and I'm not really good at making friends offline.
Glad to see someone sees it the same way!
