There is nothing out where I am. So, I need to travel at least 25 miles to shop. Except for groceries, they are now closer, about 15 miles.

Well, I live in a city and I tend to do most of my shipping at hypermarkets. I know I ought to support the small independent shops in theory. In practice, most of the small shops, with rare exceptions, have poor customer service and a really small range of produce.
Some of them haven't changed their way of doing business or the products they offer for what seems like decades - they seem to think that people should shop there just because they represent the old days. It's really their own fault they are going out of business. If they were a bit more innovative and provided a better service than the big shops, most people would gladly shop there and pay a bit more for the priviledge, but they don't.

I live in a smaller town now but grew up in Orlando and find myself staying mostly local because of the large stores so available nowadays such as WalMart, Save a lot, K Mart ect. I remember my dad when I was a teenager would drive to Lakeland to buy my school clothes for me he lived in a small town as well. But back then they didn't have Wal Mart or alot of the larger department stores as they do nowadays. A lot of the small stores complain about Walmart but we use to go to the larger towns for clothes ect anyways. Local business can be good sometimes. The sometimes have things not carried in other stores. Or if you just want something that everyone else doesn't have.

I live in a large city (Kansas City, Missouri) so there really aren't small local shops around as nearby as the larger stores are, as far as I know. My family mostly shops at the large chain stores like Wal-Mart, Price Chopper, Target, etc. I don't know what we would do if we lived in a smaller town, since I've lived here ever since I was born. I honestly don't know what it's like to live in a small town *laugh*

I live in a very small town, and we don't have much retail here. We do have a family-owned grocery store though. Sadly, I do not do much of my shopping here. The nearest Wal-Mart is 20 miles away. I go there for most of my household things, and in the same town there are about 5 competetive grocery stores, which I shop around those from week to week. I just don't have the money to fully shop at the smaller stores. I would seriously go broke!

I do a little bit of both. I frequent the corner market for deli meat, milk and bread, or if we need something quick and I don't want to drive to town. But, I shop at the larger stores for my weekly grocery shopping.

I do live in a small town and I shop locally for most everything I need. There are a few stores that are not in town and I have to shop outside my town for those stores.

Well we are kind of in a small town but I try to shop the local joint's but they a getting fewer in the light of wal mart. But once it gets warmer the farmers market will be in full swing and That's a grat time to stock the freezer. and help out the local guys.

I live in a small town, and I head to a bigger town (Brandon, FL) to buy both local and corporate. I buy at big-boxes like Walmart for groceries and other necessities because the prices are cheaper, but I also go to the Asian food store to buy food not found there.
As for clothing, I go to one consignment store, but less often. I now mostly go to the Salvation Army Thrift Store because of the wider variety. As much as I like it to bits, their profits go to charity! I would use it as a principal store for clothing if I can!

I live in a very small town. There is a WalMart and a little strip mall with 2-3 stores (chain stores like Goodys). I do shop at these places, but it gets old and 2-3 times per year we go to a larger town and shop. I also do a heap of shopping online. Both my daughter and I are difficult to fit as we are only 5 foot tall. There are stores which we do not have at all and I am forced to shop online or drive 3 hours to a bigger city...such as computer supplies/office supplies, sporting goods, craft supplies, etc.

I shop locally and since I prefer organic and natural foods whenever possible, I go to a local farm to get my fruits and veggies.
We also have a local storem which is quite large and they sell milk and meat and other products from locals, that you can't find in the regular supermarkets.
I believe those products are healthier and I'm also supporting local businesses that way.
