My 11yr old sis is concerned that she cannot remember sometimes what she has just read.

if she wants to remember something, tell her to face a wall, and read it very loud. the more senses you use to understand something, the better you remember it, so she will be seeing, speaking and hearing it at the same time and her brain will receive impulses from all three senses at the same time.

thats a good suggestion! i would like to add that perhaps after a couple of paragraphs or even chapter, she should try to verbalise in her own words what just happened in the book.
that way images are linked to what shes just read.

how really sad to hear that!.. may be there is something playing in her mind while reading that's why she can't remember what she's reading. well, suggest her that before reading she would be relax first, release all calms or tricks that's playing in her mind then proceed reading.. if it does not work just try and try reading or repeat 3 times reading and i'm sure she will remember some them..
