what does all the scam sited do by collecting our emails.......

i have heard that all the scam sites collects our emails ids and sells them.so my question is what good is our email ids to them?people on the net are not business tycoons who have million of dollars waiting for them in the e-mail id .so what good is our personal e-mail id to them

I run a poetry site with almost 500 members. You need a unique email to register. I must say that at least 10 people contact me everyday to offer to buy the email addresses.
I can't believe people do these things. I hate spam, but i'm so prone to it. I get on average 500 - 600 spam messages a day between the various accounts i run on a daily basis. So yeah they sell your address.
