you seem to be relatively new to chatting and all,otherwise its like the abc of chatting.anyways,here is what it means: lol means LAUGHING OUT LOUD... a user uses this when he thinks something funny is being written by you. hope this helped

I always thought it stood for laugh out loud too. But one of my friends thought it mean lots of laughs. So I guess the most common would be laugh out loud, but it could really stand for both.
