Are mobile phones too complicated?

Just after Christmas I bought myself a new moblie phone. I had previously been using my trusty old Nokia 3310 but the battery had died. I looked online, read loads of reviews and ended up buying a Motorola RAZR V3I. To be honest I was completely suckered in by all of the features it had - camera, flashy display on the front of the phone, mp3 player, bluetooth, voice recognition technology, as well as looking very sleek and flashy. I was so excited and couldn't wait for my new superphone to arrive.
One month on and I have no idea about the bluetooth, I have never used it to listen to music, I have never set up the voice recognition calling feature and have only used it to take one photograph. To be honest I only use the phone for texting and making the occasional phone call, because I have no need to use any of the other features and quite frankly can't be bothered to find out how to use them, i'd rather spend my spare time doing things I enjoy rather than reading manuals to find out about features that I probably wont use. I suppose, on reflection, I only needed a phone which would let me text and make calls, but unfortunately vanity got the better of me - of course I had to go for the super flashy, all singing, all dancing phone.
So what do you think - are mobile phones too complicated these days? Do they have too many features? Or is it just me being a technophobe?

LOL! Well I am a bit of a technophobe too - and I think they are all far to complicated these days - after all - in my view if you buy a phone it's because you want to make and receive calls - not take photos or surf the Net!!! I remember when my last, really simple phone broke, I wevt to buy a new one and the guy in the shop was horrified when I turned down all the flash new models and said I only ever used my phone for making and receiving urgent calls and texts and that is all I wanted it to do! I now have a Siemens - it does it's job perfectly!!!

Hooray! It's nice to know that i'm not alone. I've got to admit that I do love the phone I have now, it's compact and has a flip top so I can fold it over and protect the screen when I put it in my bag, but I do feel like I haven't used half the features that I have paid for.
Thanks for replying.

Haha - i'm only your age. Don't get me wrong I understand that mobile phone companies are trying to make phones easy to use, but the point I was trying to make is are mobile phones too complicated - in the sense of do they have too many features? From my experience, as I mentioned above, although I bought a flashy phone, I only really use the text and call featuesr and I just wondered if other people who had phones with many features have found that they the same.

Previously, when i owned my first cell phone i was all geared up to use all the features they provided, and i was able to. But gradually the features i use became less and what they provided more. Now, with this new phone that i use, i stopped text messaging also, now i maintain only for the purpose of making calls. And with the news spreading around that cell phones are not good for the brain, my cell phone usage is dropping to minimal.
It is mostly the teens who use all the features provided. Gradually as they grow older they tend to look at it only as a device for communication and they no mmore play games or use it for any other stuff.
My father as he became older, he is not able to understand the simplest features. He gets confused if i tell him something new. So i better dont. He finds all the extra features weird, he became old and i understand.

Yes I think a lot of these 'gadgety' phones are aimed at teenagers these days. Afterall they're the ones who seem to have the most expendable income these days. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thank you for your response. I'm pleased that you find the extra features useful, I suppose some people are just better than others at understanding these new technologies.
