Can someone explain what the stars next to our names on MyLot mean?

Ok - as a recent starter to MyLot I have a question. I am sorry if it has been asked before, but I haven't found a thread on it - and I can't seem to find an explanation on the MyLot rules page or in the FAQs. Next to each user's name there is a coloured star with a number in it - so what does this mean? Does it relate to your stage as a user (ie beginner, intermediate, advanced or whatever) or does the number have something to do with the number of good ratings you have received? This morning when I logged on, mine was green with a number 5 - I would love to know more so if someone could explain I would be grateful. Thanks.

The star is the indicator of your quality in posting or still finer how other readers rate your opinion and presentation. It may vary based on the + or - they give. Something on which you have little control. But quality posting helps a lot.remember in my research it has little to do with the $ you earn.

My lot has rated all its member by they way the post discussions and the way they response the discussions on my lot, the most popular you are the more rating you get, it all depends to the quality of post and response you have done on my lot. so the more popular member is the more points he will get on my lot. its simple.

You will get your rating according to how the member here evaluate you if you receive alot of + rather than - sign your rating will be higher. The rating is from 10 to 1 meaning if you receive 10 you got a the highest rating and when you got 1 you have the lowest rating.

well, everyone seems to have answered your query.
the stars are for rating one's overall productivity here.
also i would like to bring the fact to your attention (as well) that there are alerts that keep coming out which you should have a look at.
the answer to your current discussion is also present in those alerts.
also, a lot of people here seem to have answered this question numerous number of times and seem to be getting a little tired of it cropping up over and over again ( im not one of them, im pretty new myself), that is why i make the above mentioned suggestion.
thank you. have a nice stay.

We have developed a new algorithm that now ranks a myLot user’s reputation. The myLot reputation rating takes into account various factors including discussion ratings and is based on a scale of 0 to 10 stars with 10 stars being the highest. These stars currently appear next to usernames in discussions.
At this point, you may be asking yourself “What about the user rating number that appears next to everybody’s name? Isn’t that for ranking a user?”.
The user rating that you are familiar with ranks the level of a user’s activity on myLot. For example, a user with a rating of 1,500 is fairly active on myLot, but the rating really tells you nothing about the quality of the user’s activity or how the user is perceived by the myLot community. The new myLot reputation algorithm ranks the quality of the user’s contributions to myLot, as perceived by the myLot community.
Users with a user rating of less than 100 will not yet have myLot reputation calculated, and will therefore have no star next to their name. myLot reputation updates once per day, so most users should see their reputation appear shortly after reaching a user rating of 100.
Remember, myLot reputation is determined by the myLot community, and it is cumulative for all user contributions. Therefore, myLot reputation can fluctuate even without a user participating on any given day.

this is what i understood from mylot guidelines.
users with a user rating of less than 100 will not yet have myLot reputation
myLot reputation is determined by the myLot community, not user
It doesn’t mean that 8 stars means “good user” and 5 stars means “bad user” only indicate how active user are
increase your reputation is by contributing quality topics, responses and comments and avoid breaking mylot rules!

I'm grateful you asked this question because I also have the same question in mind. The last time I logged in, I saw my star has number 5 in it, then after not logging in for a couple of days it decreased to 4. I didn't know what the stars mean and I also thought it's the number of times somebody has chosen your response as the best. That's what I thought.

The star next to your names in mylot is the star rating that mylot give to all user who has been reach 100 post. So if someone have not reach 100 post, they won't have star rating next to their names yet. Yes, it was related to the rating you have received in mylot. Whenever you get + rating or you get best response, your star rating will increase. and whenever you get - your star rating will decrease. So you must post a good quality response if you want your star rating increased.

I am wondering why I don't have a star? Does this mean no one has rated any of my discussions or responses?

If it is true as to what the majority of respondents have described, then this is nothing more than how well you are doing in the Popularity Contest department. Remind anyone of high school? Were you a member of the Popular crowd?
I did very well (in academics) but was relegated to the geek community which suited me just fine. No matter how well you may present yourself, you haven't earned any creds if you don't subscribe to the Popular Movement.
