I used to focus my journal (or diary) entries on the bad things I couldn't talk to anyone about. This helped at first and it also brought me to the point of being able to have these discussions with people. Now, my entries focus on every aspect of my life (not each day, it's random) from one day to the next. Sure, there's still bad things and the need to vent . . . but not everything I write about in there is like that anymore. It's just to negative.

it's not true that people only write bad feelings in their diary i keep a diary and i write all the events of my life some are good and some are bad experiences... but yes there are times when u are very happy it's easy to forget yr closest friend and not enter the lovely things cos it's so easily forgotten but the things that are bad and hurt the most and depresses one have to be shared to make one's heart feel light and not give oneself up in misery and so we write we share and look for comfort and thus we end up having more sad or hurtful entries in our diaries..

Maybe because not all people have someone to talk to when they're feeling bad or low. There may also be instances that they feel that no one can understand them and that they choose to keep things for themselves that's why they prefer to use a diary.

Do you? I wrote so when I knew what's a diary for. It was 20 years ago. However, since I'd felt it just led me to get a worst negative-thinking about myself and others, I stopped that way. I've switched my views and chosen possitive one. I don't blame myself by writing down bad feelings any longer. I do not reject them, but I choose not to elaborate upon them very deeply. If so, I'm sure it will make me sick, even in the next time when I read it again. Best wishes for you!

I don't think people only write bad feelings in their diary. Where did you get that from? I keep a diary. Sure there are a lot of bad stuff in there, but it has an equal share of the good stuff too. As long as I feel like writing down something, an important event or whatever, as long as I feel strongly about it, I write it down. Maybe you're talking about a sort of therapeutic journal or something. Because it has been proven by studies that writing down emotions (usually this is bad stuff) can make a person feel better.
