My husband's neice is in Queens, NY. When she came last month, while talking about churches, she mentioned some drive in churches are there in San Francisco. It is really amazing to know the facilities people require to save the time.

Sure I've heard of drive-in-churches! I live close to an interstate freeway and almost all of the truckstops have a drive-in service for the truckers if they'd like to attend. There's also a drive-in service (someplace else) for people who ride motorcycles. Kind of unique! I guess their attendance is pretty good from what I hear.

Thanks for your very intersting respnse. Incidentally I am not a christian. I am an Hindu. I was reading some encyclopedia to search for some information for my son's school project and I found the information of drive-in-church and that subjected fascinated. It is like the saying: When Abdulla cannot go to mountain, mountain can come to Abdulla!! Also if one finds it difficult to go and see god, donot worry, God will come and see you. Thanks a lot for prompt response and reply to comment.

There is NO name for the Drive in church, as it moves from truck-stop to truck-stop. From what I understand the minister holds a service at the truck-stop, and they get out of their trucks and sit around on crates, or whatever. There was an article in the paper last spring about it. Since there's quite a few truck-stops on this stretch of the interstate, I have no idea when it's held at each one. I think they rotate Sunday by Sunday, or something. I think it's for the convenience of the truckers, as most churches parking lots wouldn't hold very many semi trucks. Also, I would imagine the truckers wouldn't attend a regular out of town church if it was off their route and they had to hunt for one. The theory is that even out of town truckers would go to a service if it was handy to them and didn't play havoc with their tight schedules. I doubt that any locals, that are NOT truckers, go.

sorry couldn't resist, it just sounds a bit tacky, worse than getting married in Vegas although many people do that and I'm sure people would love a drive in confessional, although its not something I personally find tasteful. I don't like McD's much either, still there's no accounting for taste.

Yes. I have and wish we had one that was local. Part of the reason I miss church on some Sundays is because I really don't feel like getting up, getting dressed, and having to socialize on my day off. I would LOVE a drive in type of church.

No, I haven't. They have a cowboy church though where I live. It's held at a rodeo arena. I don't know if they attend on horseback or what.

I have but I haven't seen any in person. I have seen them on TV. My brother says they are all over Vegas like the drive through wedding chapels (we do have those here). You would think that New Orleans would have a few drive through churches, I mean we do have just about every thing else drive thorugh.
